single chainring setup.

just changed to this.

front.    52 tooth single chainring.       wolf tooth components 1x chainring.       130 bcd.    rival 180 mm.    gxp.     Stages power.

rear.      etap.   Wolf Tooth.   RoadLink extender.       11-40.  11 speed shimano cassette.

working ok.      easiest three gears can have chain jump down, with back peddling.      known issue with 1x setups even if chain line is optimized.

so I can handle all terrains.       if the gaps don't bother me.

  • Hi Robin, you may remember me asking about SRAM eTap recently and I think you responded. I ended up going with SRAM 1x instead and I LOVE it. I have a 50 front and an 11-42 rear.
  • Funny, I just ordered a 52 T Wolf Tooth 130 BCD 1 x chainring today. I have a Shimano Ultegra 10 speed groupset. A couple of weeks ago, I pulled off the FD, changed to a 12x30 rear cassette and added the WolfTooth road link to extend my DA DR. I tested it in a Sprint Tri this weekend and it was working like a champ until the last 1.5 miles when I dropped the front chain to the outside ... twice! The first time I jumped off and put it back on. The second time, I reversed the crank, reached down and put the chain on while coasting. Unsatisfactory, hence the chainring order today. Don't need a bigger rear cassette though because I'm only going to use this bike (Giant Advanced Trinity) for flat course racing, and keep my 2x BMC TM01 for the hilly stuff.
  • yes I think the 1x chainring is necessary.     different tooth design.    Wolf Tooth.    or Sram X-Sync.   or others.

i have a bunch of components I plan on throwing on other bikes.

46 t with RoadLink with 10 speed sram.   11-40 SunRace.    for road/cross/travel bike.

maybe 52 t with 10 speed.   RoadLink.   11-40.   shimano derailleur.      cabled travel tri bike.

11-42.  11 speed.  long cage Rival 1.    for something else.

    etc.

like the simplicity and worrying about one less thing (front derailleur.)
