IMCHOO RACE WEEK!

ITS RACE WEEK!!!! YAYY!!

First off ----- Coach Rich is having your pre-race webinar on Monday

Register here: IMCHOO WEBINAR

Thursday: Team Dinner (don't forget to pay, deadline is THIS TUESDAY)

Friday: 4Keys (don't forget to sign up and TELL EVERYONE!!!)

Saturday: BIG BREAKFAST - Bike check in and REST

Sunday: DAY OF EPICNESS

Monday: Breakfast, Awards, Kona Roll down

Everyone started this journey for different reasons, at different times and here we are, coming together to execute and CRUSH CHOO! It may be your first or another one of many but each time we have to dig into ourselves and find out "WHY DO WE DO THIS CRAZY THING?"

You're welcome to share your "One Thing" or keep it to yourself but remember, practice this now. Look yourself in the mirror and say it out loud. Your body hears what your mind says. Tell yourself WHY however many reasons and one things it takes.

Remember to focus on the mental game. Do not underestimate this 5th Ironman discipline, it might be one of the most important ones.

When you are in doubt remember this….YOU HAVE ALL THE TOOLS YOU NEED!  You've put in the hard work, the learning, the training, the tank is full, you have all the tools. Put it all together on race day and be proud with whatever outcome you see. Smile and enjoy this day. Remember to be kind to your family, friends, volunteers. Represent EN well. Take time to thank the ones that have gotten you here. Love on those friends, spouses.

-----------------------------------------------------

Doing everything right for 20 weeks, executing perfectly on the swim and bike is only going to get you to the The Line as discussed previously, but make no mistake, it will come and when it does, have those One Things ready at the forefront!

Summary: During the course of your race day, expect your body to have a very convincing conversation with your mind: "Look, Mind, you've had me out here slogging away for 132 miles. This is really starting to get old and very painful. If I see another Strawberry Banana Gel I might throw up. You need to give me a good reason to keep going forward. If you can't give me a good one, I'm gonna slow down and you can't stop me!" If you don't have an answer ready, your day could be over right here.

Advice: Before the race, you need to be able to answer the question: "Why am I doing this race?" In other words, you need to determine what is the One Thing that put you in this race? To finish in the daylight with a smile on your face? To run a 4:10? .

  1. Whatever your One Thing is, be absolutely clear and rehearse your mind/body debate beforehand. Practice makes perfect and this is a critical thing to have ready for when your body starts to push back.

  2. Be warned: your body can be a helluva good negotiator at mile 18, especially if your mind hasn't prepared its rebuttal arguments beforehand.

Now team, do me a favor, take a deep breathe.... yes I mean it.... in through the nose, out through the mouth and SMILE. Are you doing it? Still not joking, DO IT!!!

It has been an honor to be your Race Captain. I am here all week if you need to vent, have any questions etc. Please remember to sign up on the IM CHOO Dinner form if you haven’t already done so! Please try and make the dinner, its so great to hang out together before the BIG day! I will be there in spirit!!

Mushy part over.... GO CRUSH THIS COURSE!

**** Go over the admin notes from race captain thread and the random thoughts from race captain thread to make sure you've done all your admin duties, social media stuff etc*****

  • Thanks , Mariah for always being here for us! I'm leaving Monday morning my cell is: 248-568-1314. how are we staying in contact with each other for the race?
Have a great race everyone. Looking forward to meeting and racing with you.
  • Let's get it on!
  • @Yvette We use an app called GroupMe. Go ahead and install it on your smartphone. You will see info on how to join the IMChoo group once they create the group on the app. It's a messaging app where everyone sees everyone's texts.
  • Forgot to make sure everyone has their Ultimate EN Checklist? --- FYI GroupMe should start Wednesday I believe - so we can all chat there when that starts!
  • @Mariah Your text above says TUESDAY for the webinar but the link is for MONDAY. I assume the link is correct?
  • @Mariah THANK YOU for all that you do!!!
  • It's Monday - sorry friends ---- brain. hurts.

    The Link is correct.
  • Thanks Don!  I did it.  see you soon.

  • Mariah...I don't mean to be a jerk, but why is the webinar during the day (as in during work hours) today?  I won't be able to participate as a result. UGH!
  • I just work here - Im assuming thats when Coach Rich wanted it or could do it - however, it will be saved and posted here after and I can ask coach rich to be available and following this thread for specific questions.

    Soweeyy
  • Hey friends! Just wanted to put this out there, if you haven't yet, try to get some practice jumping into your pool (with a wet suit if you're wearing one). Like we will be doing on race day. Best to be prepared as to how you want to enter the water, ie...holding goggles, holding nose, legs spread, what angle....ect...
  • Hey Rich - meant to ask - are there any bike sections that we should specifically plan to ride on Friday? Thanks, Sue

Mariah...I don't mean to be a jerk, but why is the webinar during the day (as in during work hours) today?  I won't be able to participate as a result. UGH!

We've done webinars in the evening, in the afternoon, and participation either way doesn't seem to be affected. Regardless, I'll post the file from the call and don't forget we have 2-3yrs worth of IMChat webinars on the IMChat page.

  • @ Rich...No worries. Sorry I missed it today.  Had a work meeting.  Thanks for posting it, and I figure I'll get what I need at 4 keys talk.
  • Hi Coach! Can't find the webiner!
  • So I got totally slammed with work since the weekend (like working to 3am last night again) and will be working up to the minute I leave..and I might have to work while traveling. Yikes!! i am super stressed out. So, deep breath to me. I am trying to pack in between work and catch up on our race emails. My hubby is on board for helping make sure all is good (which he always does anyways! image )

So few questions if anyone can answer I would totally appreciate.

    1. I used GroupMe for Raleigh but can't remember if we are provided a code? and if so, where will I find it.

    2. Any more info on any swimming anyone is planning? If so what time and place. If all the stars are aligned just right, I will find you. Thanks Yvettte for your pictures you posted... helpful!

    3. Those going to the dinner. What do you wear if you don't wear IM, tech, sporty stuff?? I know nothing else these days. For real?

    4. Please confirm to ease my mind. I can check in on Friday for athletes and then. Saturday is bike and special need/transition bag check-in. It is but I just want someone to say. Yes!

    5. If that webinar link is somewhere, can you post it?

    Thanks!!

  • Breathe deep...hold...let it out. Repeat.

There is a swim that someone organized (it was on FB on the IM Chattanooga page). Friday morning at 8am at Coolidge Park. About 15 minutes upstream then back. They have at least a couple of kayaks.

Virginia and I are wearing casual clothes...think business casual. No logos.

Yes Friday check in, Saturday bike and bags. Special needs are race morning from what I remember reading.

I think GroupMe will be set up by the team tomorrow.
  • Hi Kim, sorry to hear about the stress. Deep breath!
    1. They will send a code out for our event, probably tomorrow. Usually you get the invite on your GroupMe app.
    2. Friday morning at 8am there is a swim that some people are doing (Pat Koss).
    3. I'm wearing blue jeans and a polo shirt. Is casual, like going out for a nice dinner with friends, which is what you're doing! image
    4. Yes
    5. Nothing was covered that's not covered here: http://members.endurancenation.us/Resources/MasterRacingPages/IronmanChattanooga.aspx It was brief - like 15 minute overview
  • Hi gang, just about to fire up group me, but wanted you all to know that we have 22 people for dinner tomorrow night. Here is who I have coming.

  • You mean Thursday, right??

  • Someone help Kim off the floor! I think she may have just passed out! lol
  • @Don! ha.. almost yes! ha.

  • I am sad I won't see you this weekend. I am still in a holding pattern about the recovery from my crash. But I will be sending you godd vibes early Sunday as you pump up your tires. I will be hoping the water is warm and fast, your ride into Georgia and back to Chattanooga, especially on Hogjowl Road. And that run out, back, over the bridge to the hill and back. And, when you hear You are an Ironman, I will be extremely proud to be on your team. Good luck all. And, if anybody finds a really cool Little Debbie Ironman t-shirt, I would love to have one!

    Good luck and execute!

    Mark the crash test dummy
