Birkie Fever-2017

After 5-years of lurking on the sidelines here after my last triathlon at IM-Florida 2012, I am back in the house and aiming for Lake Placid in 2017. On the way though, I'm planning to make my first attempt at the Birkie. I'm in wave 2 of the 50KM skate, based off my Gatineau Loppet time from this year. I think a few other members may be skiing the Birkie as well so feel free to chime in. I definitely need a housing recommendation. Yesterday I did 10x2 minutes double poling on the roller skis. Surely that will translate to swimming faster in Mirror Lake, right?

  • Kevin,

Looking forward to seeing you in LP in 2017.  As for the Birkie, ping Bill Mckinney he's done this race multiple times and been through the rigors of the OS while skiing and training for this race.  Here's a link to his breakthrough race at that event which I'm no help for your lodging recommendation request.

  • I think this is either 25 or 26 for me (lose track.). There are condos that come up for rent at Telemark. Walk to the start and bus back when done. I would check there first.
  • Did some hill bounding yesterday with our Nordic group and worked some agility cones on roller skis (met the ground twice so I was trying). 17-weeks out to the Birkie. Working the Nov OS, but also checking the weather for any hint of an early snow dump.
  • I am Planning on some roller skiing this weekend. Should be interesting as I have not really been on them since my injury 6/14 and the last Birkie was done solely on determination. Doing NOS also but no running.
