Jeff Kane Macro Thread

Hi Jeff,

This is your very own “Macro Thread” where you and I can discuss any questions you may have about the Triathlon Season Roadmap (TSR) that I created for you here. This is also a space where we can discuss any big picture, season planning, race schedule and other related issues you may have going forward.

Welcome aboard!

  • Thanks Coach! I have had a chance to review the TSR and I really like the way the plan is outlined. As you mentioned there is a gap in the June/July 2017 time period. I have a few race options to explore in the State Sprint Tri Series (Setup Events) here in South Carolina. Would it be a wise investment in time to race a few weekends in this time period to retain some top end speed and further enhance race execution practice (albeit on a smaller scale) going into the Full IM plan? Or would I be better suited to look for a 1/2 IM in this time period or plan a few super bike weekends (you mentioned them in a podcast).

I am open to any and all suggestions. I'm excited about the OS and the 2017 race training as I really enjoy the journey of the training.

    Thanks!

    Jeff

  • Either route is good, though scheduling a HIM is generally a better accountability tool: will get you honest with your long run and weekend riding. But HIMs are generally more expensive also. Don't overthink it, just go with whatever sounds like a fun route
  • Coach, the OS is progressing nicely as I am currently in wk 12. As I have spent some more time looking at the race season, listening to EN podcasts, and looking at family commitments I had a few minor changes to the original plan. With that being said, here is the 2017 Campaign - 2/4 - 15k road race, 3/5 - 1/2 Mary (no more full), 4/8 - 1/2 Mary, 5/17 - Sprint Race, 6/21 - Sprint Race, 7/15 - Sprint Race, 10/15 - IM Louisville. The 1/2 Mary's in March and April are one's I raced last year and am looking at them as a tool for fitness benchmarking. I want to do these sprints plus perhaps one or two more to really build the speed I was lacking last year. Finally, a return to IMLOU for redemption and to see what a year with EN looks like. I know you mentioned in my TSR to load the Intermediate Full Marathon on 1/16. Can I load the 1/2 Mary plan instead on 1/23 to take advantage of week 14 testing? In addition to the OS, I have been on a run steak (day 57) to really build my durability and I am seeing a lot of gains. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Yes, fine to load the half marathon plan on 1/23 instead of 1/16. I'm assuming that the rest of your schedule above was in the TSR I created for you? If yes, no need for any other actions. If now, then please submit your updated schedule to me via the Triathlon Season Roadmap tool under Training/My Season above.
