IMPuertoRico 70.3 - TriClub Regional Championship

Hola Team!

We have decided to throw our official hats in the ring to compete at the Ironman Tri Club Regional Championship - We've been so focused on crushing the Tri Club Global Competition we didn't give this much thought last year. However, we see a need for a team 70.3 and an early season race for EN. As most of you may know - We know we can win this competition too as we have already qualified for it multiple times over!!

This race is solely based on performance (Top 5 athletes points are scored for EN's total) - HOWEVER race tri club points still apply to the Global Tri Club Championship so either way it's a win. This is an unofficial key race as there won't be a Four Keys talk on site but we will be having an online race prep webinar for the team only and race week support.

We understand that this is a travel race but it is extremely affordable race-cation. I would love to show you all around Puerto Rico so depending on the interest, I can put together some team outings and maybe even snag us some lodging and travel deals. Plan to race as if there are no deals but don't make hotel reservations just yet - let's see who is in!

1st step is to REGISTER and then make sure you're affiliated with EN for Tri Club Points - Any questions about that need to be directed to the fantastic Brenda as she is our Race Director. (THEY ALSO HAVE RELAY OPTIONS - so that could have the potential to be a fun team option)

2nd step is to chime in here whether or not you're in (Let me know if you're interested in team dinners, team outings, possible group lodging discounts etc)

3rd Read up on Race Reports like Bart's and I KNOW Paul Hough will not mind me saying you can reach out to him as he has raced this multiple times and has race cations down pat!

Side Note: Most of you may or may not know that I am part Puerto Rican and own a condo here - I really am looking forward to finally racing in paradise and doing so with my EN teammates. I might even convince some of my family there to cook us an awesome PuertoRican carb loading meal pre-race! Come alone or bring the family, this is a great place to race and at the beginning of spring we can kick off the season with a tan!

Ironman has told us this will be a huge TriClub party - they bring out beer tents and shower us with gratitude - let's join in on the fun (and take home that 1st place award!)

  • Highly considering!
  • Did this race a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. I want to go back but not sure I have the time to go. Did the race on one outdoor ride and the OS and performed pretty well. Just not heat adapted at that time. Going to keep it as a possibility.

    One word...MOFONGO!!!

    Well, another word...MOJITOS!

  • I'm in. We have hotel reservations but I can cancel if you can find a better deal.
  • Curious how this plays into the OS? Certainly argues for the DEC OS start vs the Jan 1
  • Im doing a NOV OS but probably won't complete it and jump into HIM plan towards the end
  • You know I'm in Mariah!
  • wondering what guys are in & if anyone wants to share a place?
  • Scott.....I'm likely in.   When do you need final commits by?

I can see how this is coming along...it will be like a 7th grade school dance.  Boys at one place, girls at the other until one brave boy asks a girl to join him for a training ride or shakeout run and then all the boys and girls will start talking to each other.  And come Sunday both the boys and the girls will all be kicking ass enroute to a champtionship.

  • @ Jeremy - I guess I am in but haven't bought a plane ticket, registered, etc.. Guess I am the 7th grader waiting for one of my braver friends to say they are in... the real question is which boys & girls end up making out behind the gym??  Please don't turn this into a JW reference

  • It sure as Hell aint going to be me and you Scott, so don't even think about it Fabio! Ha!
  • Behind the gym?   It's Puerto Rico...wouldn't it be better to make out on the beach??

  • Y'all - QT2 has posted on social media to gather people to help "defend their title" at IMPR PANAM Tri Club competition .......

Lets get serious and win this thing - HOW BAD A$$ WOULD IT BE TO BE THE 4xTriClub Championship winners AND the PANAM CHAMPIONS
  • @MB,

My 2017 race season took a dramatic turn a few weeks ago, so I'm now looking to add some more fun to what should already be an epicly fun year (my return to Phuket got pushed to '18). I just checked flights to PR ($400 non-stop), I hablo espanol and I like the group that is currently interested. Let's chat about options in PR and in the Pacific next fall. Speaking of, if DS and I go to PR, BRC, LP and Kona together next year (assuming LP goes well for her as it should), people will start talking, and my street cred will go through the roof (while simultaneously destroying hers).

    MR
  • Hey Mike, I'll take a hit on my street cred for an opportunity to race with you any day! Hah!
  • @MR - I've already got DS for Al Camp & LP, so get in line!
  • I'll be racing. Looking forward to it.

I'm glad you aren't in my AG!   It will be hard enough to qualify anyway with only 30 spots total!!

Mariah - I'm in.   Need your help on lodging.   Roberts, Dinhofer, and I looking for 3BR lodging but doesn't appear to be much/any.   Can you hook up your insider familia puertorriquena for some help?

  • Awesome glad you're in JB - The hotels that are close require at least 10 for a discount and I don't believe we have that many - Did you guys check VRBO or Airbnb? if you get a place on Ashford Ave you'll be within walking distance of the race and my condo ---- Let me see what I can hunt down. SO STOKED FOR THIS RACE!
  • And here I found one - this one is PERFECT seriously I would jump on this one https://www.vrbo.com/645009
  • so MR and I chatted today - we decided since its a point to point to be strategic with our EN houses. I did this with B2B the year I raced it and it worked out perfectly. I had a house at the swim start and someone else had the hotel by the finish.

SO - My casa for swim start coffee etc since Im a stones throw away - you dudes get a place by the finish and its tri club after party then EN after after party at the finish line side (which to be honest is smarter bc the finish line side is cheaper on rentals)
  • Excited to be doing this! probably nothing making me focus more on body comp NOW than an early season big training day in PR!
  • Hey everyone per awesome JB there is a TriBikeTransport code expiring tomorrow (11/20/16)
    for $40 off CODE: EARLYBIRD

Now its time to get serious about training!!!  17 weeks to go

    17 weeks?

time to step away from the Ben & Jerry's

  • I'm pulling the trigger. I will be seeing you all in SanJuan. Just one word... MOFUNGO!!!
  • btw, if anyone has signed up PRIOR to getting the IM discount code that was sent out,
take THAT email and forward it to triclub@ironman.com. Explain that you recieved the code AFTER signing up and that you are coming to challenge for your team per the email. Ask them if they can give you the discount even though you've signed up already.

They gave me the price I would have paid after the price increase, but with the code, so I've got 50bucks in post race beer money coming my way!
  • Thats great they gave you some back - I registered before the increase so maybe thats why I got no luck - hope everyone else has the same luck scott did! Great work team
  • @ Mariah - I also registered before the increase. They basically said: you paid $375, the qualified triclub deal is $325, so you're getting 50buckaroos

if you paid over $301 for the entry, they will give you whatever nets you down to the deal price of $325 apparently...
