@Ian - Thanks for the tip. I like certain things from both platforms, so this lets you get the best of both worlds.
I like how TR lets you switch between erg and slope, especially on the longer weekend wkos, but Zwift will not. I also believe that TRs erg mode is a bit quicker to respond to changes in cadence.
That said, I love trying to catch people in Zwift and all of the other distractions it offers. I'm going to try the dual process on this weekends ride.
Got the 30/30s and some Z3 time done this evening just before the run. Leaving for work at 0500 and not getting home until 1830 makes even OS training difficult right now...
30/30s done. Been approaching them as "as hard as you can for 30 sec" which has me well above my prescribed Z5 and also sees some fade. I just find it hard to hit a target power for such a short time, but I'm sure as the fatigue adds up, "just' hitting my numbers will get easier.
Duane - yes - sorry, I forgot that detail... 2 Ant+ sticks required to run that setup.
Should work otherwise with kickr being powersource on Zwift. Again, if you simultaneously run TR and Zwift, just deselect the Kickr in Zwift from the smart trainer option.
Thanks Ian. I just ordered another Ant+ stick. Look forward to giving your suggestion a try.
I try to get up to power in the last 5 seconds of the rest period so I can ride a consistent number during the interval. I tried increasing the target by 5 watts across the set of intervals. It worked well. Kept it interesting and added a bit more work without risk to Saturday.
@ Bill - on the podcasts. We've been kicking around EN for too long and in some respects are getting lazy. After my last IM and winging too many things I've told myself that this year is like year one watching/rereading everything. Well at least that's the plan. Good to see you still kicking around. Hopefully it cools off and we get some snow so you can do some skiing.
Got in a second workout all by feel as my head unit has died. Given my previous rides I did in by cogs and rpm's which should have me getting 2X5 FTP and an hour total ride.
4 am roll out if bed was painful this morning. Pre training fuel up before putting in some work.
4x9'@ 1.02, 1.02, 1.01 & 1.01 No HR data due to technical difficulties.
By theemail end of the 3rd set I was spent. Finished the 4th one on fumes. I shorted too may calories yesterday and it carried over to this morning. I'll have to adjust accordingly on Monday for Tuesday' bike.
Got in some more calories in preparation for the run.
Got mine in, but it wasn't easy (especially on the 4th). 1.01, 1.01, 1.02, 0.99 (as I said, wasn't easy). My problem, contra Phil, seems to be that I need more sleep (5 hours a night isn't cutting it right now) rather than more calories (which I have too many of regardless).
Completed my four sets on TR yesterday watching Daredevil on Netflix. Some of the fighting scenes matched up nicely with the Z4's. That fourth set was tough though, like everyone has mentioned. But it's all about that fourth one right, anyone can do the first three but that last one makes you grow...at least that's what I kept telling myself.
@Phil and Bill - 4am wakeup call is rough! I hear y'all about the importance of sleep. Recently, I read an article on how getting 8hrs of sleep with interruptions every 2-3 hours is the same as getting 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Quality is just as important as quantity. I have a one year and three year old that seem to tag team alternate nights, waking me up every 3hours...can't remember the last night of uninterrupted sleep! Hope you guys get some ZZZ's and good calories this weekend.
So... I finally was able to down load Garmin and get test results. And no wonder these intervals are hard, but doable without changing my zones from last season (last test was over a year ago since I didn't race this summer). My FTP is two points higher than last time I tested. WHAT?!? Good lord. I've been riding, but not hard and not intervals. Guess I'll just go with it. Will likely move my bike to Sunday, though. I have half marathon in a few weeks and doing a 9 mile run when I'm slow as it takes me 90 minutes- super hard to put the intervals in the middle of that after Saturday's bike.
Did 40 mile ride today with friends who like to push the pace. I'm dying after all the hard work this week, but it was good to enjoy our nice weather with friends, and get in a killer workout at the same time.
Well I did the Saturday ride today, since I was visiting my parents out of state yesterday. It went much better today than last weekend! 12',12',10',10' at 103%,103%,102%,103%
I did Ian's suggestion of running TrainerRoad and Zwift at the same time, and it worked great (best of both worlds).
It was great reading everyone's posts on the plane today!
Like Duane, I did a group ride Saturday and rode like a cyclist. That means I went hard up the hills and pushing the pace a bit. I figured somewhere in there I did the equivalent of 2x12 and 2x10. Legs are feeling good today.
Everyone be sure to rest hard on Monday to set up a good Week 3.
Got in a 3rd bike today with 3X4' at my of decent work. My head unit died so no power numbers again. It's all based on cogs and RPM's. I felt pretty good this week so the plan is to ramp up the work time twice next week.

I may have to give Zwift a go to change things up a bit. Just watching dvd'a now.

Late posting ... got the Saturday bike intervals done using TR yesterday afternoon.
I bumped my FTP up 5 watts. I was able to ride 'on the number' with moderate focus. I will try another small bump next Saturday.
I will also pay close attention to how the long fun feels today.
