Mark Lane's IMFL Race Report: Short Version
Enjoyed meeting and having dinner with EN'ers Stephanie, Scott, David, and Paul. Hopefully our paths will cross again.
Swim: Wore sleeveless wetsuit because of water temp, no issues. Water was choppy because of the wind, I had a hard time sighting on the way out, and got a few big gulps of sea water! Seemed like a lot more contact and congestion this year, but I managed too stay calm and just kept swimming. Goal:<1:30 Actual: 1:32

T-1: 10:13 Wetsuit stripping area was all sand by the time I got out, stripped my own on the pavement. Lotsa room for improvement here.
Bike: Very windy on the way out. My plan was to watch my HR more so than power. Kept it down around 130 entire time. Had 6 bottles of infinit and 4 bottles of water. Around mile 80 my feet started swelling, and got pretty painful. Happened last year too, anyone know how to prevent this? Shoes were fairly new and loose. Goal: 6:15ish Actual: 6:35
T-2: 7:43 Made portapotty stop, still room for improvement.
Run: Once I got running and loosened up felt surprisingly good, bike nutrition must have been really close. Did the 1st out/back in a little over 2:30, but I could tell the "suck" line was coming. 2nd out/back was much slower. Goal: 5:30 couldn't/didn't make it happen. Actual: 5:43 still a PR!
Overall: Goal <14 hrs Actual: 14:08:49 and this too was a PR

Thanks to EN and the Coaches, The work really does work!

Great work Mark, congrats on the PR! It was nice meeting you both at Dinner and at the finish line. Hope we get to meet again.

Mark congratulations on a big day!!
I agree with Paul C., most likely too much sodium. I would rather have that than the opposite issue of not enough. You can simply just drink more water and fix the issue while it is much more difficult to catch up on sodium depletion during a race once you get to that point as well as the pain and issues dealing with the resulting cramping.
Here is a good way to learn how to dial it in during training:
