Chris Castallo Micro Thread

My running pace and running HR dont seem to be matching up.

For example, on my long steady run today with a TRP pace target of 9:06, my heart rate is high z3/low z4, not anywhere near TRP.

So should I be slowing down to drop my heart rate, even though that'll really crush my pace targets?

  • Chris, the HR Zones don't map to Pace Zones, especially in the "I'm less fit" period of your year and with these hard workouts. So stick with the Pace work, but don't overachieve on them. It's okay to push the bike, but you have to run in the zones from your last 5k test (unless your test was terrible / messed up, in which case, let's talk).
