Derrek's 2017 Macro

Coach Rich

You recently completed my season plan based on IMNC as my A race.  Now that it's cancelled and based on how I'm feeling 6-8 weeks after IMChoo, I'm now thinking about a two IM season and wanted to get your thoughts on doing 2 IMs in one season.  Then your thoughts on doing IM Boulder and IMLou or IMLP and IMLou.

I went through the Post IM plan then unstructured running and biking until NOS and now my running fitness is as strong as it was in March when I ran a HM PR.  My run test for NOS was a 10K and my VDOT is still 51 and was surprised I didn't lose run fitness.  Bike fitness came down a bit due to cutting way back on the weekend bike rides mainly because I didn't have any thing to train for.  Based on this and with enough time to fully recover, train and taper again, I'm thinking I would have a strong second IM.

Thanks for your thoughts!

    Hey Derrek,

The gap between both sets of races is big enough that you'll be able to recover and ramp up again for the 2nd race. However, the dates of the proposed 1st races are different enough that they create very different training conditions, I would think. That is, Boulder = early June = you'll start race prep in ~late March, I think? IMLP = RP start in early May. So you'll need to decide which race has the better timing for you?

  • Coach, Thanks for the feedback. I think IMLP sold out the day I posted my Macro. So, now my decision is Boulder and IMLOU or 2-3 HIMs and IMLOU.

    Thanks!
