The Purpose of the DecOS Forum

The rest of this forum will be filled with weekly mojo and accountability threads. For example, the DecOS Week 1 Thread, or the DecOS Week 1 Bike Thread, DecOS Week 1 Core Workout Thread, where you'll encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and generally support each other as you build your FAST across your 14 weeks together.

DecOS Captains Wanted

We are looking for three members to serve as DecOS Captains to create and guide these weekly threads: Bike Captain, Run Captain, Core Captain. Bang the drum, basically. You will be rewarded with gold, riches, and accolades beyond your wildest dream, plus a free month of EN, and a badass OS Shirt.

Please email me (Brenda) at brenda@endurancenation.us if you're interested.

Please Introduce Yourself to Your DecOS Teammates!

Please join/sign into the NovOS by introducing yourself by posting to this thread, posting a picture and brief bio using the format below. These are the people you'll be training with, virtually, for months and months so it would be great to put faces and personal stories to names and email addresses!

We recommend that you subscribe to this thread, using the Additional Options dealio visible when you reply to this thread when making your introduction. You'll then receive an email when updates are made to this admin thread.

Finally, understand that the Coaches do not actively monitor these Training Group Forums, searching for training questions and support issues to address. That is, if you have a training related coachy-coachy question, you'll find us in the other forums and specifically in the Micro and Macro Threads!

Thanks! We look forward to seeing what fun and motivation you guys create for yourselves!

  • LET"S GET THE PARTY STARTED!!!!!!!

  • Alright, who else besides Jacklyn and me are in it for the December OS?

This is my 4th time to do the EN OS. Usually I've done NOS but this year I raced at Kona after qualifying at IM CDA so I needed some time to recover mentally and physically from two IMs in seven weeks. I've been doing the run durability plan for the last 4 weeks and gotten back into the weight room and I'm happy to say that I've seen some improvements in the amount of weight and reps I've been able to do.

I'm looking forward to getting back to work on the bike and some of that high intensity work that the OS is famous for. I've been nursing a hamstring injury all year that is aggravated by running too fast so I'll be watching that very closely during the OS. I probably won't be doing a lot of high intensity stuff in that category and I definitely won't be doing the run test next week. My A race for next year is the Alaskaman Extreme Triathlon which is an IM distance race that ends with a 7 mile trail run with 4000+ feet of elevation gain on Mt. Alyeska. So I'm going to be incorporating trail runs with a lot of vertical relief into the training season in general. I am doing two half marathons in February and March so I'll be able to test my running fitness there.

I'm also doing IM Puerto Rico 70.3 in March so I'll be dropping out of the OS a little early.

So what's your story, goals, and concerns about the OS?

  • Hey! I had a late season and basically took most of November off! I am still working my goals for 2017, but I am for sure planning on the Blue Ridge Bike Camp in Apr/May and then the November USAT Aqua-Bike Championships in Miami in hope to qualify for Team USA and a trip to Australia in 2018!

I am also getting ready to move to the Fayetteville, NC area next month since my headquarters is moving to Fort Bragg. So, I will try and keep up as best I can during this next crazy several months!
  • I shall be in DOS ... looking forward to it ... what training plan do I need to load in my Training Plan?

Also, I am just getting my bike back after a huge saga following IMCDA on Tuesday this week, so Monday test will move to Tuesday for me ... see you down the road.

  • @ Marc, glad to hear you finally got your bike back. I hope it's finally fixed. Load up the 2017 Run Durability/Out Season plan. I'm not sure which flavor you want, i.e., beginner, intermediate, or advanced, they all end up in more or less the same place but the advanced just ramps up faster.

  • Am I going to be the ONLY girl again! I guess I will have to pull out some BIG wattage to keep up with you GUYS! Hahah (Yep. Practicing my smack talk. How i'd do?)

This is my 4th OS. Have BIG plans for 2017. Doing my first full IM next July. This OS has a whole different feel to it. Really need to kill the bike. Some what took 2016 off due to my mom passing and wanting to just be a daughter/mom/wife. So now i'm biting off the whole enchilada. Been dealing with a calf strain since July. Been doing the run durability plan for the last 2 months. Calf feels ok.

Gave myself a Christmas present. New power tap pedals. Won't be here in time for OS to start.

For those of you loading up the bike test tomorrow. Have fun! Looking forward to seeing every ones numbers.  I won't be doing mine until Tuesday.

For those of you who are new to  EN and the OS. Welcome to the SUCK! We are going to work hard together. WOOT WOOT.

  • Howdy all, looks like a slim group (or folks just don't see this thread), but I am in for the DOS! This will be my fourth or fifth (can't remember at this point) OS. I have done both January and November. Given other goals I have, December slots in nicely. I am looking forward to knocking this out with all of you!
  • All ... from my previous post I am in for an "awakening" ... I have not been able to ride since September, long story but my bike is FINALLY ready to go, picking it up tomorrow. I have never ridden with power so my initial testing will be funky for sure ... with taking SRAM eTap off and putting Shimano back on I was able to recover some other ancillary costs from SRAM and bought Powertap P1 pedals for my power ... keeping in sync with my last 9 months ... I will be in a learning curve so please be patient and keep ridicule to a minimum lol!

    Looking forward to it!
    Marc
  • Hi all...I'm in for December OS!  I have a slim race schedule this year since 2016 was an epic year for me and now it's the "year of Mike" (my husband!!).  It's his turn to decide fun stuff to do since he was the best training partner and sherpa a girl could ask for!!  I'm coming off a 2 IM year, Mt. Tremblant in August and Kona in October.  1st time back on tri bike today!!  This year I'm doing a local HIM called "The World's Toughest".  It's in Auburn, California.  I did the Oly earlier this year and it was challenging.  A weird thing...my race number for my 1st race in 2016 was 351....my race number for my last race this year (Kona) was 351.  What are the odds of that ever happening again?? Kinda eeeerie!!!  Anyway I'm looking forward to having some folks to suffer with!  Bike test today went better than I thought it would so I'm off to a good start!

  • I'm in. Cant remember the first time that I really did an out season. But I will have to jump out after week 8 as I have an early season 70.3 to start getting ready for.

Looking forward to growing some fast after a rocky 2016 where I had 2 "meh" showings at IMTX and IMFL.

  • Late entry but I'm in!  I wasn't expecting coach to start me in the December outseason, in the past I started in January.  I just got back from a week long vacations so I need to get my butt in gear!!!  I did IMLP in 2015 and mentally recovered this year with a few "fun" races.  I signed up for IMPL again so here we go!

    Kristin Kandiel (K2)

  • I thought I posted , but perhaps to a differnet thread.  I am in for December.  I haven't done a damn thing since IMMO and I need to get in shape.  Looking forward to the help.  This will be my 8th OS.

I do have a question though.  It is above my pay grade for sure.  Given that we have such a small group for Decemebr, would it be better to keep things simple by using one thread for Bike and Run, and for for core/swimming/other.  I found the multi threads difficult to keep up with last Nov OS, but will do what ever the group or the good cop/bad cop say to do.

    Todd

  • I'll be in, but starting a week late. I think this is OS 11 or 12, and I'll be in for 2 IMs this season - whistler and tbd. Feeling clearheaded, rested and ready for the grind.
  • I just got home from a long work trip so my week 1 calendar is all jumbled, but I'm in for Dec OS (this will be my 2nd OS). Building for IMLP in July.
  • I am in... 2nd OS.  Challenging week with work and travel, will have to move some days about - is there a link to the accountability/tracker for the DOS?

  • This is my first time with any official coaching at all. Really liking what I see with EN. I've done Syracuse 70.3 three times, Timberman 70.3 and IMLP. For 2017, I'm signed up for Mont Tremblant 70.3, IMLP again, and the inaugural Lake Placid 70.3. I live about 45 miles from Placid and I'm a teacher, so racing between the end of June and the beginning of September is really my only option. Bike and run tests are done. The run was actually easier to do than the bike--and I liked the results better. Cycling is my strength and my love. Like to run, too. Not so much with the swim, but I get it done. Looking forward to training with you all, and having some direction with my training.
  • This is my first OS w EN & I will be doing the Intermediate 14wk Run DOS ending 3/12. Raced St Jude HM 12/3 & got my TT done that week also. Planned to do week 2 twice but somehow managed a pinched nerve in C6 after the Tues bike ride so I'm. nursing that & trying to get workouts in. I took 2016 off for the most part to support my HS senior son in triathlon & XC running. I did 1 marathon in Feb w him & 2 HM along w a couple 15k & 1-50k trail runs & 1 triathlon in Aug for fun. I have completed distances up to 70.3 in under 5hrs & looking for my first full IM at Louisville in 2017. I have self coached up until now & actually coach others in marathon & HS XC on the side. Looking forward to jumping back in triathlon training w a Dualathlon sch for March, HIM in May, Olympics in June, July, August & LOU in October.
