Anyone have experience with ProShift? LINK

"AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT YOUR SHIMANO Di2, SRAM eTAP or CAMPAGNOLO EPS SYSTEM."

A silver bullet or $800 doohickey?

  • I have no experience or knowledge of this at all (I have looked at the web site), but my reaction is: "Do Formula One drivers use automatic transmissions?" I didn't know the answer to that question, so I googled it. Apparently, they use "semi-automatic" clutch-less paddles with 8 forward speeds to change gears. Kinda like ETap or Di2, no? My point is, on race day, I will get the most out of me by being the one in control of how hard I'm working at any given moment.

  • $800 doohickey (But this is coming from a non-Di guy). I can think of a zillion things that a zillion percent of normal riders and racers would get a bigger bang for the bucks from. Plus, to Al's point above, shifting is riding a bike, and riding a bike is fun. This robs me of fun and $800.
  • Both of your responses is kind of what I was thinking. In short sometimes the experts are wrong and technology helps, but I don't think this technology can see the hill or turn approaching and shift as fast as a human can anticipate the shift. Would probably be OK for someone who has no idea how to ride a bike. Might be neat to play with for a week and give back? (Not sure how to do that ethically.) One review said the rider could pretty quickly anticipate when the device would shift. Lastly, I just got eTap and it is pretty incredible. I have no interest in buying this, I just think it is good to be aware. I bet we see this integrated into future groupsets as a natural progression of the industry. Do you ever miss a shift when you are tired or distracted? This might help. No harm if it is easy to override and is unobtrusive?
