Arctic Zero - Icy Delight or Poison in a Pint?
Throwing another one out there! I actually don't care to debate this food's merits but thought I'd continue the title trend.
My friend brought two pints of this faux ice cream to my weekend cookout. It's a little over 30 calories a serving or about 130 calories for the entire pint. The first ingredient is whey protein and the rest of the ingredients include a lot of gums. No dairy. I was expecting to see lots of chemical-sounding ingredients and was pleasantly surprised that they weren't there - but then again, what the heck is Locust Bean Gum?
I found the consistency to be more like a sorbet than an ice cream and noted that it does not refreeze very well - you get icy chunks. The chocolate flavor wasn't too bad but it also wasn't very rich - again, more sorbet-like. The vanilla tasted terrible to me until I looked closer at the pint and saw that it said "With Maple" and then my tastebuds said, "Ah, that's what that taste is!"
It's not filling at all and certainly doesn't give the stomach upset that real milk does. I'm not a huge ice cream fan so I probably won't be rushing to buy a pint of my own but for those ice creamaholics out there, this may be worth sampling.

I also cannot debate the merits of locust bean gum , but that doesn't sound half bad @ 30 cal/serving. I'll give it a whirl too, nex time I'm at WF. What I have discovered eating Paleo the past two weeks is that when I had my "free" choice yesterday, the milk I had really bothered me. I thought milk was feeling tough on my gut in recent years, and boy did I feel it last night after not having any for a couple of weeks.
I stopped drinking milk a few years ago. I still occassionally eat cheese tho, not too often. When I did stop drinking it, my ezcema almost completely disappeared and so did my acid reflux.
I've had it put to me this way...Humans are the only species that drink the breast milk of another animal. Doesn't sound right, does it?!?
