  • Good luck, Yvette!! You've got this!!
  • Hi Stephanie, Thanks. I was thinking about you the other day...how are you doing?
  • Week  4 and down 14 lbs.

  • Week 6

Looking forward to Saturday weight in ... should be down -20. Was a difficult week, they had us at 750 calories a gallon of spring water each day.  Taking a week off then back at it for another -20lbs. Now is the time to get it done.

  • Well, made the 6 week challenge.  I lost 18 lbs and missed the cutoff by 2 lbs.  2 seams to be my lucky number.
Going into the next challenge with a goal of -22 lbs.
First week of the 2nd challenge and my weight is holding.  Sticking with the plan, tweaking the food selections and focusing on drinking the water.  Moving forward!

    Week 8
Finally moving forward.  Need to keep drinking the 120 OZ of water a day it helps tremendously.
    Down -22
Looking forward to the next week. Changing my food. Am is 1/3 cup of oats instead of 1/2 grapefruit.  Lunch take out 12 almonds replace with 4oz sweet potato.
  • Feb 6 17 week 10
Take out the oatmeal and replacing with half of grapefruit.
Taking out the sweet potatospot and replacing with 12 raw almonds.
    No weight change.
    So this week
Taking the strawberries out of my 2 shakes.
In addition,  had an infected tooth pulled today.
Hoping to see some changes this week.

  • You are doing it Yvette!   I started logging calories on myfitnesspal.com on 12 Sep 2016 and have not missed a day.  I've lost 15 lbs since then and am slowing it down now.  I'm at a race weight I haven't seen in over 10 years and just 3 over my lowest weight from my early 20s.  I've had to start buying new pants, 7 pairs in the past 2 months, and at least 7 new pair still needed.

  • @Paul HoughCongratulations on your accomplishment! That is not easy. Are you near Palm Harbor? My parents are there. @Yvette Metz You will do it! The slower it comes off, the longer it will stay off :) Don't cut your calories too dramatically, or your metabolism will slow way down, at least in my experience :)
  • Hi Paul! Wow, that is amazing and encouraging! Great job... thats a lot of weight and you will pick up speed.
I'm trying to take drop 20 lbs more, but at a stand still. I want to start training swim, bike and run on March 1st.
I'm visiting Tampa in about 5 weeks and will look you up!
@Laura Searle , think that's my problem now being at a stand still.  Have until March 1 to drop some more. Thanks for the advise.

  • @Yvette Metz When you start running, let me know. I'm slow but would be happy to join you for at least a warm-up :) I know it sounds crazy, but I actually lost weight when I cut my carbs and upped my fat (especially) and protein. I felt more full and didn't snack. I switched to full-fat yogurt, nuts, avacado, avacado/olive oil, butter, etc. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but at least for me, my body uses/burns fat/protein and stores carbs. (I do eat more carbs before/after tough training). Celiac also runs in my family so I avoid gluten, and that forces me to avoid processed carbs and cook my own meals. I don't have all the answers, but that works for me! I wish you much success.
  • @Yvette Metz the penalty for failure in Scott's weight challenge is severe!

@Laura Searle, yes I am fairly close to Palm Harbor.

Everybody is different, but Laura's approach is very similar to what has worked for me when I'm in get into serious mode.  Sugar is my weakness, but once I cut it out for a while I no longer crave it.  I eat all of the nuts, eggs, and avocados I can eat when I'm really training hard.  for me it's basically Gluten Light, Lower carb, higher fat...

Keep up the great work @Yvette Metz, you are also building mental strength throughout this process!

  • Awesome support, Team!! Thanks!

Thanks laura! I hope to start running March 1. Looking for Coach Rich advice soon .
I meet with the VIP Fitness director yesterday and once I have my schedule from EN he will help me with macros. Thanks for all the advice I'm taking the info to my next meeting. They have never coached  nutrition for anyone doing an Ironman . So I have to wait and see what works.
  • Thanks John! Definitely building the mental strength and it's nice focusing on what I need for a change.
Excited to start back to swim, bike run. The food is a lot like you described my only concern is how I'm going to fuel for workouts and racing. Don't want the sugar ,wheat or carbs in a package.
Just have to take one day at a time.

    Update week 11.
Keeping everything the same. Was able to drop 1.5 lbs this week after a standstill. The key for me is making sure I drink 1 gallon of water a day. Total -23 lbs.
Another tip..in weight class I am challenging myself. What ever the exercise is and the amount of weight the instructor tells us to use I add that on top of the -23 lbs.  Example: we had to do squats with weights. So I took a 35 lb. kettle bell instead of 10lbs.,Besides 10 feels like nothing.
Two more weeks to go. Thanks for all the great advice and support.

  • @Yvette Metz Yeah!! (You are a beast- 35 lb kettle bell!!!?)
  • Great to hear beautiful!  Color me inspired!  I just hired a sports nutritionist to get a handle on my menopot! ;)  I am just getting my head around timing my nutrients and eating a LOT of protein.  Looking forward to seeing you (I Hope) soon!!!  xoxo
  • Great job Yvette on changing your limiter!  I am interested to see what they do for such an endurance athlete for training.  Their specialty is body comp, so it will be really neat to see how they adapt their plan to your new goals!  You may be able to help VIP open new doors to the endurance community!  So proud of you Ironsis!  <3 Love you!
