Considering a Garmin 310XT

Right now I use the PT computer and wear my Garmin 305 on my wrist for the bike. After riding with power for a few months, I know I'd prefer:

1. One unit to scroll through my laps as opposed to having the 305 beep at me and then having to punch a lap into the PTC.

2. The Garmin screens - I find the PTC to be less user friendly, less malleable, and just eh.

3. More data - I'm kinda new the the IF and VI data points but I'm gathering that it might be nice to see these spit back at me while I'm actually riding. (trying to climb this learning curve...in the granny gear, but I'm getting there)

I definitely don't have $700 to spend but I could swing the $300 for a Garmin (helloooo tri club discount) and then sell my 305. My question is, does the Garmin 310XT have the ability to meet my #3 preference (VI/IF, etc)? From the user manual I downloaded online, it looks like it does NOT but I'd like confirmation on that, as well as any other advice people might have.

thanks!

  • Nope, 310XT (or any Garmin device) does not offer TSS/IF/NP or VI yet.

The Joule and iBike are the only Ant+ devices currently that offer those metrics, but neither will work to well on the swim or run :-)

If you can hold off, I would bet at least 1 for sure (if not 3) major sports watch manufactures will have new watches released that will read ANT+ power meters. Who knows if they will have TSS/IF/NP though.
