70.3 FOUR WEEKS after 140.6 .... crazy?

My "A" race this year is Challenge Roth on july 9th.
A very special invitation came up for a 70.3 (close to home in Brazil) four weeks later and I ask myself ..... crazy idea???
I'm not the "complete" but rather the "compete" type and I wonder if I can carry forward the fitness with the following plan:
Importantly: my recovery post IM is usually quite good.
- WEEK 1 : REST legs up with a light Z1 run by the end of the week + 30' OWS
- WEEK 2 : 2 x 10k Z1-Z2 runs and 1 longer OWS
- WEEK 3 : normal HIM week 19
- WEEK 4 :normal HIM week 20
Crazy idea ?

  • You want a suggestion? Ok.

    Go. For. It.

You won't know until you try....and it sounds like it fits the "FUN" category.
  • Go for it, but bear in mind:

    • 2-6 weeks after an IM is the "grey zone" IMO, meaning your performance in the second race may be sub-par compared to the IM training you were doing. Too long after the big race to benefit from the training you did for the first one, and too soon to get some new fitness back. Also, there's that pesky little thing your body wants to do: recover.
    • Personally, I've injured myself at least three times trying to do a top end race performance - specifically, the run portion - within a month of a full effort IM. Caution on the run in the second race would therefore be my advice.
