Coach:
Its great to be back in the house. I have a few questions (no big rush). Background. I am a 59 min IM swimmer, a strong biker, and a weakish runner. I was 17th in my AG (M50-54) at IMAZ 2 yrs ago (4th out of the water, 19th on the bike, and 17th on the run--=17th in my AG with a time of 11:16). I held back on the bike to save for the run (I learned that from you guys during my last time in the house). I have dreams of a Kona spot one day. I know it will take some real work on the run. I just started Run Endurance Outseason...So here are some questions
- Swimming: I have a crew that I swim with--It has become quite a social event. These guys are fast (all but one are former NCAA Div I swimmers). I can hang with them, and we do workout 2x per week when I am in town. We do about 4000 yds but not ever junk yards. Intervals, etc. I know the idea is not to swim in the outseason, but it would be hard to give up. Your thoughts?
- I travel a lot: About 200K last year: I am looking for a half marathon to run at the end of outseason, but I will be in China the two weeks prior. Should I try and schedule it two weeks before the end of the Outseason, skip it, or do it later? Coach Rick has me doing a swim camp those two weeks--should that possibly be skipped if I keep on swimming
- Do you recommend a HIM in July or any other time? Regarding timing (from a life scheduling perspective)--July works best for me. I am thinking of Racine 70.3 as it is a 1.5 hr drive and the idea of traveling more makes me nauseous.
Thanks in advance
Jon

Sorry I missed this. My notes:
Recall that IMWI is the focus and I am on a 1/2 iron plan until 6/19 and then switch over to IM training. But now that I am pretty certain of my travel schedule I have two big international travel events coming up.
6/16-6/30: One Trip: New Zealand, San Antonio, and Denver
8/28-9/1: Brazil
I can bring my bike (I have the Hen House case and if flys free-I am a super frequent flyer).
So the big question is: Do I need to change when I move to the ironman plan?
Your thoughts?
No need to change anything in your training plan, other than to bring your bike on those trips and ride as best you can, considering travel time, possible jet lag, work schedule, etc. You can work with Patrick in the Micro Forum if you need help with specific adjustments to specific training days/weeks, but no changes are needed to your Triathlon Season Roadmap.
Good luck!
