Inaccurate Power readings

Received Pt1 pedals for Christmas. After pairing to Garmin 920xt and Trainer road had a lot of dropped signal. Trainer road seemed to be receiving accurate power numbers but my 920 was recording watts 2/3 less. Heart rate, cadence, distance and time are accurate. The only thing wrong is the power reading. I'm pretty sure the pedals are accurate to TR because I doubt I can ride at 20mph with 50 watts of power. TR says i'm about 245 watts. TR says there's an excellent/good signal coming from the pedals.
I read on slowtwitch to unpair everything and unplug the blue ant. Then repair the pedals first. If anyone has any other suggestions i'm all over it. Thank you.

  • Try the bike outside as well using the 920 XT and I think you will find the outside watts to be much closer to the 920XT trainer watts than to TR......within 5-6% of the 920 XT on the trainer.

The key here is to pick one of the baselines and stick with it until the next testing cycle so that you can measure performance.

If you are going to be transition to the outside soon and find the outside number using the 920 to be closer to the 920 inside on the trainer vs. TR, go with the 920XT baseline...

Very nice job making these investments, staying consistent and moving forward!

  • Even though the signal from both pedals flows thru the left, they come as separate data streams. I found when setting up my new P1s last month with my Garmin Fenix 3, and other receivers, like TR and my PowerTap Joule, I had to make sure they were picking up both signals. I did this via the PowerTap app...if you don't have it, you may want to get it so you can check you're sending/receiving both signals.

AAHHH. Did not know about the app. Thank you.
  • Thank you both for your time. I'll touch back if there continues to be trouble.
