16/17 DOS Bike Week 7 - TEST WEEK!!!

Oh boy it's here, the week you've been waiting for, TEST WEEK! Get ready folks, we've got a test coming up on Tuesday and you've been doing your homework for 6+ weeks now so get a couple of good night's sleep and be ready to crush it. Be sure to take the day off before you test to allow for recovery. You want to go into it as fresh as possible. If you need a reminder of how to test go back and read the Week 1 thread here. Then on Saturday you'll get to put all those bright, shiny new numbers to work in pushing that ceiling just that much higher. Good luck everyone.
Here's the song of the week. I hope it's inspirational for you. Hall of Fame

  • Bike test done, glad I don't have to do that again for a while! Test was pretty ugly, didn't execute very well, started a little to hard (greedy), and was blowing up at the end.  Did get a 7w increase on FTP, I'll take it.
  • Hey Mark. Great job.

I just got done having a colonoscopy. No test for me today.
  • I've been a little short on time so haven't been on the forums lately but have been working out hard.  Weekend before last did a 16.5 mile trail race-did well- but very steep terrain with a lot or tough decents really beat my legs up.  But still pushed hard through all the workouts last week and then the fatigue caught up and though I put up good numbers on last Saturday's bike it really trashed me.  So I thought about pushing the bike to another day later but got on the bike and did a good warm up today and HR looked good so I just went for it.  Much better than expected result.  Was able to push my 5min from 323 up to 340 and pushed the 20min from 272 to 290.  Very happy with any improvement at my age(54).  Another reassuring factor was that each 5 minute segment was faster than the previous with the last 5 minutes of the 20min test averaging close to 305.  Pleased with the progress.
  • I am impressed with some of the bike improvements posted here!  Reflection of consistent, hard, focused work and the payoff is real!

Made it home Wed night from NYC business travel/stress.

Buried myself on the bike yesterday after work:

    KMF!
  • Sat. bike done with new FTP. Pretty amazing how raising the power just 7 or 8 watts feels. MS 1 at .97, .97  MS 2 at .96, .97.    Run done as a brick. Was really bonking the last mile of the run. After finally getting to watch the Jesse K. webinar, there are some fueling issues I need to work on, and under fueling during training is one of them.
  • Saturday bike done. 1.00, 1.01, 1.01, & 1.02 outside and all in the aerobars. No test for me this week because my doctor gave me a colonoscopy for my 60th birthday and it was on Tuesday. Between the prep and the recovery it put a crimp on my training.
  • Very nice work MM and ML!

Yesterday limited for time in between 4 conference calls, I squeezed in a 3X16' FTP set: https://www.strava.com/activities/847473637
