Di2 firmware upgrade / help troubleshooting

hi all.  I just built up my bike with di2 and upon completion zero response from derailleur.  I tried to trouble shoot as best I could checking wires and connections then raised the white flag to take it into my lbs to run diagnostic as I didn't have the correct cable.  Well 6 days later and get a call back from lbs who said they have been back and forth with shimano rep and only thing they can think of is that my derailleur aren't update to latest firmware.  Was surprised to hear lbs doesn't even have cable to run diagnostic and they are inferring this.  Didn't sound like they had any plan to get a bcr2 cable to be able to actually run diagnostic or update firmware (if in fact that's the issue).  So guess I'm left to purchase cable and run diagnostic / update firmware myself or find shop that has proper equipment.  So long winded background but wanted to see if anyone has had similar experience with di2, anything else I should trouble shoot and if recommend I get bcr2 cable and download e-tube software myself or hunt down a shop with experience.  Thanks for any guidance.

  • I have installed e-tubes and done a firmware update. No special cables or diagnostic tools were required. Is your battery internal or external? Which charger do you have?

Patrick - what battery do you have?  If you have the BTR2 internal seatpost battery the cable you use to charge via the 3/5 port junction is the same as the firmware updates...you just need to download the free etube program on your laptop.    If you have the BTR1 battery you would need the PCE1 to do a firmware upgrade.  I'm surprised your shop wouldn't have one.  It sounds like a firmware issue or hardware compatibility (for example...if it is a 10 speed FD and 11 speed FD they won't work regardless of the firmware version)
