  • Great work, everyone! Super psyched to see all those watts and all the love to go with.

    @Shaughn Simmons - For more info, week 8: FTP 230, 2.5 w/kg; week 14: FTP 270, 2.9 w/kg. No power data for week 1 as I've only recently joined the "training with power" club!

  • @Derrek Sanks - Nice work!  That's a huge gain.
    @ "Brian Hagan" - Thanks for your leadership these past 14 weeks
    @ "David Holmes" - Congrats on the PRs on the bike and HIM!
    @Stephen Cogger - Impressive FTP gain.
    @Ellen Sauter - Great job on the big FTP gain!
    @ "Patrick Hughes" - Congratulations on the big FTP gain despite the work/flu obstacles
    @Ross Kaffenberger - Nice FTP/kg gain!
    @Shaughn Simmons - Thanks.  You are right.  Everyday cannot be filled with rainbows, unicorns and huge FTP gains.  In addition, you are correct in that I have both had huge weekly running mileage gains and much faster pacing.  I made a lot of progress with my FTP over the past year, and that was certainly accomplished at the expense of my running.  Since joining EN in August, I have maintained those FTP gains, and am running longer and faster than I have for several years.

    I am off to swim camp next week.  Reading these posts have been a great source of motivation.  Thanks!  Hope to see many of you at Quassy and IMLP this year.

    Rode 60 miles yesturday - and as advised reduced ride time to < 3 hrs, and broke it into 6x20' @80-85%ftp(5') - averaged for entire ride - 2:51, 21.1 mph, tss-175, if-.783, hr-121, np-188

    Temperature increased from 53 deg at start to 80 deg @ finish - good riding conditions, headwind out, tailwind back

    thank you for advice
  • Did my test yesterday, ohh how miserable it is.  Started out at FTP of 194, jumped to 201 in week 8 and yesterday I was at 207.  Happy with the results.

    Between week 1-8 doing the Zone 4 work, I slowly got more accustomed to the numbers and felt comfortable toward the end holding Zone 4.  But had a different experience from week 8 to 14.  Zone 4 was much harder to hold and mostly miserable.  I am a bit nervous that with the new bump up, I will have a hard time staying in Zone 4.  Isn't it supposed to get easier?
  • Great work everyone!  I've been absent from the weekly NOS threads so I'm trying to get caught up.

    Did my test on Thursday and I'm happy with my results.

    VO2: week 1 - 200, week 8 - 205, week 14 - 220
    FTP: week 1 - 168, week 8 - 173, week 14 - 182

    I haven't ridden much  in the past 2 years due to injury and lots of other distractions so I looked back on my final Power test going into IMMT 2014 and my week 14 numbers are slightly higher than what I went into IMMT with!  I'm looking forward to more training to see where I can get for IMLP2017. Now I need to get a handle on my running... #workworks

  • Hi all -- I've been absent from the forums since they changed over to the new technology which seems to work great on a desktop, but isn't as mobile friendly.

    I had a bit of a strange training week leading up to my bike test with a couple days of skiing in Wyoming, a short run on Thursday and not much else. Regardless, I tested earlier today and am stoked to report that I've hit an all-time high FTP of 259! Feeling like I'm coming down with a cold or something, so it's possible that I could've done more, but very happy with my Outseason and new FTP PR.

    @Brian Hagan thanks so much for your leadership. You did a great job as bike captain!

    It's been great training with you all -- good luck in the next phase of training and during race season. Hope to see many of you at IMLP this summer!
  • Tested yesterday.  Gosh, I hate testing!  I eked out 3 more watts over week 8, but improved a lot from week 1- 142, 153, 156.  2.2w/kg.  Good outseason overall.  Transitioning to half marathon plan (going to try advanced for the first time and then HIM for Rev Quassy in June.
  • @Brian Hagan - thank you very much for leading and driving us home!  Agree with Mike!
    @arnoldschmidt  - smart modification and damn solid 60 miler there approximating more and more race specific wkos!
    @Ashley Jaksa -  congratulations on the improvement! Don't kill anyone out there this spring!
    @Kirsten Surprenant - good luck at IMLP 2017 and congrats on entering the spring on a strong note!
    @Leslie Knight - an improvement is an improvement!  You carry a heavy workload and improved your FTP at the same time!!  BOOM!  Good luck with the HM plan!

    I had some Saturday FTP work: https://www.strava.com/activities/854981970

    Have a great 2017 all!

    Well it seems weird not staring a new bike thread on Monday.  I really enjoyed being the 2017 NOS bike captain!  I think we kicked the gorilla's butt!

    I did not test this week, because I was planning on extending the OutSeason plan a couple more weeks.  I've since decided to do this Suffer Fest Challenge and will test when it is over.  I believe I am going to see a decent bump when I do, because I've noticed I can hold my threshold power longer and at a lower heart rate.  You all have really helped me become a lot stronger mentally, and my fitness level is much better because of it.

    After the Suffer Fest Challenge is over, I am going to continue the bike focus until I start IM race prep for IMMT.

    @Bill McKinney I hope the ski race went well.  I will look for the race report!
    @Patrick Marsh Thanks!  My guess is that your FTP is higher - you had way too many admin things going on during that test!
    @Shaughn Simmons -Thanks for all the kind words & leadership.  I can't wait to meet you in person this summer!
    @Robert Sabo - Good luck at IMPR 70.3.  It looks like a fun group going down there!
    @"Ed Shimon" - Great FTP Test! Did you break your cranks!
    @Bill Manard - Great improvement in FTP.  I think the ToS will help push it a little more.
    @Scott Imlay - I hope you are feeling better and was able to get the test done.
    @Derrek Sanks - Thanks! - Great progress!  230 -> 270!  Good luck with ToS!
    @Ross Kaffenberger - Well done - Looks like you and @Derrek Sanks had a similar progression!  230 -> 270 is stout!
    @Sabra Gonzalez - Great jump in VO2 - You raised the roof and will definitely benefit from that for the rest of the season!
    @Stephen Cogger => Great FTP bump
    @Phil Mills I hope you are feeling better.  I know you were going to continue with the JOS group!  I think that was a great decision, and you will crush it!
    @Ellen Sauter - Great bump.  You are going to do awesome at Nationals!
    @Patrick Hughes - 7% bump is huge
    @David Holmes" 1.8 MPH increase!  That is the result of a lot of hard work!
    @arnold schmidt - I sort of feel sorry for your competition at Galveston.  Not really!  That was a hammering 60 mile ride!  I can't wait to see your race plan and race report!
    @Ashley Jaksa - 194 => 207 is fantastic!  Remember....  It does not get easier.  You just go faster!
    @Kirsten Surprenant - A 10% bump in 14 weeks is stout!  Good luck at IMLP!
    @Mike Weinmann - Thanks!  All time high FTP! Great work!
    @Leslie Knight - You had a great OutSeason with excellent progress.  I think you win the craziest schedule and still got it done award!

    Good luck everyone!
  • I finally recovered from my cold/flu enough to do the 20 minute FTP test on TrainerRoad. I got a very slight bump from 192W to 195W. I'm still not 100%, so I'm happy I showed any improvement. Now, off to Swim Camp!
