NEW: 2017 EN*Full and EN*Half 20wk and Minimalist Training Plans

Team,

CoachP and I have completed our annual tweakage of our suite of EN*Full and EN*Half training plans. These plans are now live in your training plan drop down menu. And if you already had the 2016 version loaded up into your account, it's been automagically swapped out for the 2017 version.

Changes, Tweaks, and Enhancements for 2017 EN*Full and EN*Half Plans

All Plans
  • Recorded new videos and podcasts for each week of the plans -- this is huge...20+ hours of new coach content right in your sidebar for each plan!
  • We added workout names for each session, bolded at the top, so you can clearly identify what the purpose, or focus, of the workout is. For example, Tempo Bike, Swim Skills, etc.
  • Updated the Training Plan central page with this plan data. Incidentally, TPC is where you can preview all of our TeamEN plans for you.
Swim:
  • Tweaked the details of each swim workout so that it more accurately reflected it's character, ie Muscular Endurance, Speed, etc.
  • Added more clear guidance about the value of doing the race rehearsal swims immediately preceding the race rehearsal bike
Bike:
  • Shorter FTP intervals in the last ~6-7wks of the plans. For example, rather than doing 2 x 20' @ Z4, we have you doing 4 x 10' or something a bit more manageable.
  • Identified some of the Sunday rides as optional in the Beginner and Intermediate training plans, giving you the flexibility to create a day off for yourself if you feel you needed one.
  • Included new HR zones testing protocol of a 30' vs 40' TT.
Run:
  • Advanced Plans still have the most running, period.
  • Clarified the guidance for the Split Long Runs and made more clear differences between Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced runs. For example, the intensity of many of the Beginner long runs was turned down, but the the volume maintained, this way these athletes could safely "earn miles."
  • Removed hill runs from Beginner and Intermediate plans, replaced them with Strides.
  • Tweaks made to the VO2 runs across all plans.
  • Tweaks made to Tempo interval runs across all plans.
  • In the Beginner EN*Half plans, we added a second "semi-long" run to weeks 1 through 8 of the training plans, to help people with low vDOT scored.
Coming Soon:

Season long core and functional strength guidance: as you know, we currently have an OutSeason Swim Preparation and Core Strength Routine. We are now in the process of season-ifying that resource, to create a program you can drop into at any time and self-serve your core and functional strength needs.
