Race Camp Weekend

First 70.3 race is Galveston coming up April 2nd. I have opportunity to spend long weekend in Galveston 2 weeks before race (March 16-19). Was wondering about doing a "camp weekend" instead of regular training. Couldn't find anything related specifically to half ironman, but was thinking about adapting full. For example:

THUR - swim test day
FRI - 56 mile ride, 1 hour run
SAT - up to 56 mile ride
SUN - long run

Questions are:
1. is this a bad idea?
2. if not, does the plan look good?
3. how long should long run be on Sunday?

Thanks.

  • @Allen Goodling  You did post it here...you're a rock star!!!!

    Here's what I was thinking:
    • Thursday: Swim Test
    • Friday: Race Rehearsal + RR Run of One hour (follow your race pacing).
    • Saturday: Back that ride up..maybe even try to ride the last 30 minutes a bit stronger (or 30' somewhere between the midpoint and end if the end is too busy).
    • Sunday: Long Run can be 90 minutes here, but the first 30 minutes should be very easy btw Z1 and TRP...then build it from there (from the scheduled Thursday run).
    • Monday is OFF
    • Tuesday is a very light day
Let me know what you think!
