Europe Trip- different goal race?

I posted this on my macro forum, but I'd love to get some feedback from the group:

So my husband gets an extra week of vacation next year and want to go to Europe for two weeks in late june/early July. I'm so excited- we have never gone anywhere for more than 1 night without kids in 23 years! Anyway, the HIM I signed up for is on August 13. Do you think I should choose a race before I leave or later in August/Sept, or do you think with consistent training I can recoup any losses in 4 or 5 weeks. I have been very consistent and plan to continue. I imagine I can get a few runs in in England/Scotland (how cool would that be?) but I don't know how many or if bikes or indoor bikes will be available. Your thoughts?

  • You can get back  but switch races if it will bother you.  I'm going to England for 10 days early Jun and have an A race late Aug.  I will run each morning.  Unless you are staying in modern hotels ... scarce in rural England ... dont expect to find a hotel workout room with a bike.
  • @Laura Searle - 10x what @Paul Hough Said. You can do it for sure, and in terms of value / awesomeness / etc that 2 week trip is a million times more important than a half IM.

So for me if I was at 85% on race day because of a great trip...all good because I am crushing this thing called life.

If you want to crush the race and are willing to have that decision create stress around your vacation, you could do that...or you could just move that race. I'd suggest 8 weeks gap for optimal, 6-8 weeks as 90%, sub 6 weeks as 80 to 85% of potential best.

    Hope that helps!

  • @Coach Patrick 85% works for me! I'm doing this for good health and fun, not to break records (at least this year- haha!). Thanks for the support!
