Ohio Triple T

Scheduled a family visit back to Southern Ohio in June and stumbled on the Triple T - I happened grew up in that area. Following the EN spirit to do something epic with our fitness I signed up!  Coach Rich has modified my schedule - I'm seeking any knowledge or suggestions the team might have on preparing and executing this race.

  • Hello Brian -- I've done the Little Smokies Tri twice but never the full Triple-T.  It's a tough course, and should be excellent preparation for your IM Chattanooga race.  This year it's moved back to June 2-4 (it was in mid-May) and that should help with some of the temperature variability.  Get the right gearing on your bike to climb -- from what I've heard you don't need all the gears Friday or Saturday, but by Sunday they're essential.
  • I did it in 2011 and contributed most of the write up Al linked above.    Happy to answer any questions you have.  It's an epic race and apart from Kona probably one of the most memorable experiences I've had in triathlon.
  • I also "raced" aka survived it in 2011 on my way to IMLP.  Unlike Paul, I ran out of gears every day!  It is tough, but totally doable.  As Jeremy says, it is a very cool race experience and unlike any other event I've ever done.  My best advice is patience.  It is a LONG weekend!  That and EAT! Have fun!
