Rory Gumina Macro Thread
Hi Rory,
This is your very own “Macro Thread” where you and I can discuss any questions you may have about the Triathlon Season Roadmap (TSR) that I created for you here. This is also a space where we can discuss any big picture, season planning, race schedule and other related issues you may have going forward.
Welcome aboard!

- Testing: was unreliable in my previous web coaching experience ... case in point ... just completed my Trial Week 5K test - 31:30, 128 avg bpm ... but am typically 22:00-22:30 at end of Sprint Tri ... my computrainer tested ftp is 208
- My Training Groups: Tuesday's I train with running club Mar-Nov (mostly speed work, but longer options always available); Sat. (now-Apr) I do hard CompuTrainer course rides & Wednesdays (Apr-Aug) I do hard, hilly 35mi ride with biking group; Sundays thru mid-June hard swim practice (4K-5K yds)
- Power vs HR vs Perceived Exertion: I train with my garmin 910xt, but don't typically race with it ... and hardly ever go back to view training stats after uploading
- Training Time: plenty of time and very flexible these days ... our boys are on their own and out of town, and my wife also enjoys being active (eg. we consider our yoga and Y body pump classes as "dates")
On bigger picture note, thx for your military service! Talk with you tomorrow ...
Coach Rich, I'm thinking now that instead of Oswego Sprint Tri in mid-June, that instead I would attend the IMLP Camp June 15-18.
What changes would you suggest to my current Training Plan if I were to take this path?
The camp would be 2 weeks after Quassy wknd of racing ... should I have any recovery concerns?
The camp is 3 weeks prior to Musselman Sprint/HIM wknd, and while timing might not be ideal my real goal is to finish IMLP in 2018 so the Mussel races aren't priority.
Let me know what you think. Thanks Coach R!
There will be no issues with you doing the camp, no changes required to your TSR. And the camp won't have any negative impact on your race 3wks later. Good luck!
This "stuff's" gettin real!
