  • Josh here, starting off my season with this race. It's been a couple years since my last HIM so it's tough to get out of that full distance mindset. Not real sure how this race will play out as of now but I hope to get to know some of you all and see you come June.
  • Hey Team,

I'm back for more this year.  I can't pass up an opportunity to race such a great course only two hours away by car.  The course itself, in a vacuum, is challenging: the swim is no-wetsuit, usually quite slow, against the current; the bike is beautiful, but it rolls a lot - especially the last 25 miles; and the run is pretty hilly.  But heat is the real issue.  It seems every year NC turns hot/humid the week of this race.  So, not much opportunity at all to acclimate.  The run course is one of the nicest out there (wide streets, completely shut down to cars, lined by spectators), but there's no shade, and it can be an absolute roaster.  I raced quite sick last year and was fortunate enough to just finish.  This year I want to race healthy, go sub-5 and top-10 AG.

We had a great team there last year.  Looking forward to meeting this year's group.
  • Yo!  Racing Raleigh for a 2nd time.  Did it in 2015, was my first ever Tri.  Volunteer last year, racing again this year.
  • May 7th is the Jordan Lake Open Water Championship.  Choose from 1.2 or 2.4.  Race is followed by a ride of the IM Raleigh Bike Course starting at 10:30.  Or you can just ride the course starting at 8:30.

While you can sign up for the ride through Inside Out Sports, drop your bike off at their Cary store the day before, and get a ride to Jordan in the morning from downtown, a lot of people just get dropped off at Jordan in the morning and picked up downtown at the end of the ride.  Like me.  I'm undecided on the swim.  But will be riding the course.  Its the only time I feel safe riding the course past Sunset Lake Road.
