Larry Peters Macro Thread

Hi Larry,

This is your very own “Macro Thread” where you and I can discuss any questions you may have about the Triathlon Season Roadmap (TSR) that I created for you here. This is also a space where we can discuss any big picture, season planning, race schedule and other related issues you may have going forward.

Welcome aboard!

  • Thanks so much Coach! I watched the video & looked over week 8. I trained pretty hard this past week, so I'm thinking about going easy this weekend & doing all the test next week (since they are built into may week 8).
  • Hi  @Coach Rich,

Two major macro-level questions (I think they are macro):

    • 1) I didn't mention a running relay I want to do the weekend of 7/14. It is a 3 day running relay. The race is NOT 24 hours per day. We stop racing in the evening. I would typically run ~28-32 miles in 3 days for this event (which is not really much more than some of my weekends now. I ran 24 miles in 2 days with 14 miles on trails last weekend & it was not a big deal.). But it is technically a "race."
Would it be a big problem if I ran hard all 3 of those days? I am ok treating those like long runs & keeping my HR at a low/moderate level. I've done this race ~11 times and a lot of times I just run easy and have fun with friends. But if it wouldn't hurt my Half IM training (or would potentially help my training, and my Chicago marathon goal), I would be up for running hard those 3 days.

    Thoughts?

I see that I have a "very important" final race rehersal the weekend of 7/29 (two weeks later), so I don't know if that is a factor.

    • 2) I am going to a wedding in Boulder, CO the weekend before my Half IM. I have been at high elevation before & I know it is great for improving cardio capacity. I love training at elevation. But I do recognize that it is strenuous. Will I have to take it "extra easy" that weekend before my race (i.e., maybe reduce training volume)? I assume I would be in a taper at that point.

    Thanks!
    -Rob

  • Hey Larry,
    1. Not a problem to run hard during that race
    2. Please just follow the taper guidance included in your training plan. No need to do anything special since you're in Boulder.
    Good luck!
  • Hey @Coach Rich,

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear I can race hard at Great Lakes Relay! I'm super excited!

    Thanks & Happy Friday!
