Rodney Poepping Micro Thread
Hey! Here's your Micro Thread, as promised. As you'll see in this forum, I handle all manner of edits and changes. So post away!
I usually check in 2-3 times a week; for more urgent questions, please use the Chat Icon in the bottom right of the page!
As for my notes, I think your season is stacked really well. The build will give you plenty of time, and the the Fact that you are limiting your travel what really make a big difference. Your number one challenge in terms of getting ready across the year will really be about logistics, although I know you are really into the technique stuff!
The Short Course plan we'll give you a chance to get used to our style of workouts and build great swim/bike/run competency. My only editor that section of your plan is making sure that you're long-run continues to build two your "happy" half marathon level. I gently recommend keeping that long run in the 8 to 10 miles range, when can you can do that by extending your Sunday run as needed.
Given your late-season Ironman, I think it's worthwhile for you to explore adding a weekend of cycling volume somewhere in the June or July timeframe. I have some resources free to read about this idea here: Big Bike Week Overview. This can be fun with your friends or maybe doing a local century ride and then rolling your own event the day before or after. what to get into your race prep period starting in August, the total trading load will be pretty high and they'll be no extracurricular opportunities. Since you are a runner, spending more time on the bike is a no-brainer if it works your schedule. Keep me posted on that.
Right now I know you have a trip coming up to Berlin. First I am insanely jealous, and personally don't really want to help you. second, you are paying me to be your coach so fine, just this once! We recommend 30 to 40 minutes of aerobic activity a day, ideally a short run. I suggest you head over to Strava.com and drop in the address of your hotel...then you can reverse engineer a good route like this:
Good luck...looking forward to working with you!

Thanks for the feedback.
You don't really ever want to do the wetsuit to bike transition in its entirety several times, you would likely passout!!!!
But you could practice coming up to your bike with no shoes to get them in your helmet on and clip in as you ride away. Turn around after a minute to come back, in reverse the process transitioning from the bike into your run shoes, etc.
Have a smooth transition isn't so much about race speed as it is just race comfort and confidence.
I'm within a month of my first triathlon, Its a olympic length. My question is about pacing and race strategy. being my first tri I'm not sure exactly what to expect but I want a good strategy to start thinking through now so I'll be prepared on race day.
thanks for everything
