Abbey Bonner Macro thread

Hi Rich, I'm in week 10 of the Intermediate OS Plan. My TSR plan will have me do 2 weeks Swim Camp after week 14 then 5 weeks Get Faster Plan.  I have 2 concerns:
  1. Swimming is my best discipline, I was a competitive swimmer when I was kid (admittedly no where near as fast now) . I have been ticking over swimming 1 hour per week during the OS Plan, I don't need extra or dedicated swim training and I don't feel the need to do the Swim Camp
  2. The bike is my weakest discipline, My power is low (power:146 FTP, weight 56.7kg) I also have confidence issues so need to be on the saddle as much as possible.  I want to do more bike training  to address this
I thought I could replace my Swim Camp Plan and Get Faster Plan with the 6 week Bike Focus plan, so I would start the Bike Focus plan after my OS Plan. Then I could start the Half IM Plan after this, picking the Plan up at week 8.

What do you think?
thanks Abbey

  • PS: my running training is going well under the OS Plan :)
  • Hey Abbey,

Agree that you don't need the Swim Camp...we former competitive swimmers need to stick together
    However, about how about this:
    • Do the Get Faster plan but ignore the swimming
    • Instead, repeat the bike interval session this week, so that you're riding 4x/wk vs the 3x scheduled.
    • I think you could still use the "get faster" style of run training in the GF plan. The Bike Focus plan really puts your run in to maintenance mode.
So basically we're leveraging your swim to put it in the closet and continue to work on your bike and run.
  • Hi Rich, thanks that sounds like good advice...I'll give that a go

Update:8/4/17: Hi Rich, I meant to post this message on the micro forum so please disregard it. As I've re-posted it on the micro forum now:  Hi Coach P,
I am on Wk 13 of the OS Intermediate Plan.  Since my run last Wednesday I have experienced foot pain and I can't run.  I have done 1 bike ride (today) since then and I saw a Physiotherapist today.  It is a muscle/tendon issue stemming from a tight shin and calf.

Anyway, I can't run at all for the moment but I can bike and swim, so I am planning on turning this into a positive and become an awesome cyclist and swimmer.  I am due to start the Get Faster Plan for 7 weeks after the OS, and then on to the HIM Plan. I thought I could replace some of the main run sets with extra bike intervals, what do you think? (let me know if I should raise this with Rich instead as I wasn't sure if this is a micro or macro issue).
    Thanks Abbey
