Swim warm up for time trial starts

Agogeusa.com

I'd like to start a discussion about pre-race swim warm ups when there is no water access race morning.

In particular I have the hardest trouble with time trial starts. I find that I struggle until my face/head cools off and my core warms up. On in water starts or areas with water warmup access I usually just hold my face underwater it it cools off.

When I have to jump into cold water wotgout cooling off my head I struggle to hold my breath. My form collapses and panick sets in.

Ive tried jogging around the swim start but the logistics of haveing running shoes prevents that. Flip flops are just not effective.

Ive brought swim cords before but didn't really see a benefit.

Im considering bringing a bucket of cold water and just dunking my head in it.

Thoughts?  What do you do to help warm up/overcome the difficulty holding your breath in cold water.

  • In the line up for AZ I had a plastic bottle filled with water.  As I neared the start - I dumped water down my wetsuit around my neck and splashed my face a few times.  Did it a few times just to get a little more acclimated.  I did get some funny looks and I also said - it's water - I am not peeing...at least now. :)
    Worked for me....
