Hello Coach P -- need advice on the Bike Power Test.  I'm running a half-marathon this Sunday (April 9) and that will complete the January OutSeason (a week early).  Wondering how important the bike test is given these factors:
  • I'm traveling back from my Florida break this Thursday
  • Sunday is the half-marathon
  • Next week (April 10-16) is an unstructured "down" week
  • Friday is really my only day for the test as I can only test in my pain cave at home
Is a Friday test too close to Sunday's race? Can the test wait until after the down week?  Could the test be skipped entirely or deferred until the next test in the Get Faster plan?

  • @Paul Curtin -  I am more concerned about the consistency of training leading into the test. If you've been away from the bike or in a unique setting, then the test may not be as "valid." I would rather you do some FTP work totaling 20 minutes, your choice of intervals. Then run the half marathon as planned. we can always work a test in later!
