FIXING A FLAT WORLD RECORD

I'm absolutely sure I just set a new world record. There is NO WAY any cyclist in this universe ever took as long as I did today to replace a torn tyre. Won't even admit how long .... let's just set it at "over half an hour".

This is the scenario: new wheels (ENVE carbon clinchers) .... new tyre (Continental). 

I simply could not get that tyre in .... last "few inches" were a painful nightmare. 

Which brings up my request for advice (given these will be my racing wheels in a couple months!!!) : which tyres best combine performance and ease to clinch back???

Run those tires through the dryer for about 20 minutes before you install them.  New tires will stretch out and should be easier to install the 2nd, 3rd time, etc.

part of the trick is figuring out the rim well. Here are a quick blog post and video to get tires off by hand without a lever.  http://www.jimlangley.net/wrench/flattiresbyhand.htm  It takes practice!

What Tom said. I had a set of HED jets with conti SS that would be literally impossible to install without ^this^.
