Gels and w

in an attempt to keep logistics to a minimum I plan to do my Gulf Coast 70.3 using gels on the bike and run. However, everything I read recommends not taking on water but instead GEndurance. But all gels I notice say to take with water. Would it be wise to take on water with the gels or is it likely safe to take them with Gatorade Endurance?
Thanks.

  • David, I've also read and practice taking gels with water.  It's more important to calculate and make sure you're taking in the right amount of fluids, calories, carbs, and sodium per hour for your race distance.
  • Thanks @Derek Sanks I think I'll take a small bottle of water on the bike just to chase gels with.  I can put it behind my seat w/o much aero impact.  As if my 255 lb *ss has no aero impact
  • Hi David
just a question, I presume you have done a sweat test and are planning to drink "that" fluid (including sodium) on the bike?
  • I haven't done a sweat test but I'm not a big sweater and it's supposed to be cool this weekend. Once the temps hit 85 this summer I intend to do just that.
  • Good. Your post could have been read as meaning you weren't going to drink much.
Most peeps need at least 750 mls per hour, and heavy sweaters can need three times that amount. Also 1000 mgs of sodium per hour as well is common.
    cheers
    Peter
  • No I plan on a bottle of G-ade endurance per hour.
