2017 70.3 St. George Race Day Thread

Hi Team, are you ready to give your teammates some serious mojo for this coming weekend? This thread is to be used leading up to race until Group Me is activated and on race day for the team to comment on race conditions, observations on how our team are doing during their races, or just to provide some mojo on race day.  Listed below are the members that are racing and a link to the IM Tracker.  Post away. Good luck racers.

  • Water is currently 60 degrees, may warm up a degree before race, but be ready for cold water.  Weather is heating up this week before a cold front pushes in Saturday and Sunday.  Expect 90 degrees on Saturday with high winds later in the morning.  This will make for a dicey bike ride with side gusts through most of the ride and a stiff head wind on the decent down Hwy 18.  Be careful on the descent, we have had some serious accidents when bikers have been blown off the road at high speeds.  The run has no shade so make sure to stay hydrated and apply sun screen liberally.
I spoke with the race director, and he is thinking of going with a rolling start instead of a wave start to get swimmers in and out of the water before the wind picks up.   Sand Hollow is a shallow lake that can become dangerous in high winds, ask anyone that did IM St George in 2012.
The best place to park for race day is the court house parking lot on 300 E Tabernacle.  It is the closest parking lot to T2 and the bus pick up in the morning.  The parking lot is never full.

  • Spoke with the race officials today.  They are planning on doing the regular wave start, hoping the winds pick up later in the morning.
