I need suggestions for the ultimate pain cave

We are totally remodeling our home and adding a few thousand sq feet. One of the additions is a workout room for me. I need some suggestions for how to set it up as the ultimate pain cave. I have a Woodway treadmill and am going to get a Tacx neo for the main two items. How else should I outfit it? All frills will be considered.

  • Lots of Fans,

    Good wifi connection

    Cool posters of motivational material.....

A small refrigerator is never a bad idea.

A good sound system is a bonus......

    SS
  • TV

    Rubber Flooring

    Bands, TRX, Strength Training Equipment

Shelving units to hold supplies, etc

If you haven't done so already, Google - Triathlete Pain Cave - lots of pictures!

  • @Trent Prough posted a picture of his a while back which I thought was awesome that I had to grab an envy shot of it to stare at ; )

  • @Trent Prough heard you talking last Friday on the way to Mt. Mitchell, and yes you are redonkulous!!
  • Mine is a Power Penthoise. Upstairs deck, partially covered, enough so I can avoid any rain. French doors open into loft like area where big screen HDTV and sound system reside. Connect to them via headphones, so I don't disturb fam or neighbors. For temps about 55F I need a fan.
  • @shaughn send me a poster of your race photo as motivation @jeff rubber flooring? @ Trent awesome @Al how do I import a forrest like yours out here on west Texas?
  • The coolest one i have rode in had a projector and nice sound system. Zwift with a picture the size of the wall is pretty awesome.

Extra bike storage- I have 4 bikes so 3 are tucked on the wall at anytime.
  • @Trent Prough what is the thing on the floor to the right of the bikes?
  • @Trent Prough - thought it was 2 screens, do I see 3? how about a pic in full usage mode with what I am assuming is TR or Zwift on one screen and what on the other two??

Hot Tub/swim pool I think!  Man that is over the top sweet.  But if you can't swing that, How about a Vasa trainer?

Fans and/or a separate HVAC zone for the room is one of the keys.  There are several days I would actually rather do a trainer ride- but my pain cave gets kinda hot in the summer.

Don't forget to set aside some open space for recovery/pre-hab/yoga type work.  Yoga mat, a Bosu, etc.  And think about storage for all the little bits and bobs.
  • I liked my setup in my old house in NJ (maybe one of the only things I liked about NJ...).  I don't have any good pics, but you can see much of it in our ICTT video from several yrs ago.  Integrated Endless Pool (that I actually bought on eBay), with my bike rollers next to it and then my treadmill.  I had a low computer with screen in front of my bike (for TrainerRoad, etc) and a large TV mounted on a swivel above it.  and a couple of huge fans.  Jess' bike/trainer was off to the other side next to our Smith Machine/weights.  Also had a pull-up bar down there and a spot to mount all of my bike wheels.  The floor was industrial rubber gym flooring that we put together like giant puzzle pieces.

  • Mine is boring, computer on a table that hold empty beer bottles..... in the garage, a sink near to refill bottle.

Its been 2 years we are here and I tell myself I gotta build something better.. hah
  • @Scott Dinhofer Yes it is 3.  I've moved the bikes to the rubber flooring in front of screens and if alone ... use one screen for zwift, one for TR, and the top one for TV station/netflix watching.
@Brian Hagan Yes @Nemo Brauch is right.  It's a Michael Phelps swim spa-- big end for swimming and a small end separated by glass for hot tub therapy area.
I also of course put in some pretty high quality Bose in-wall speakers that blare loud enough you can almost hear in the house (this building is separate from house on lot next to )
Since picture I've created a little area too for bike repair setup and cleaning and put on an auto cover on swim spa for humidity control issues.
  • i just want to know when we have a mini camp @Trent Prough's house??!!!
  • put in lots of lots of electrical wall switches.  I have a bunch of power strips and extension cords that would look a lot nicer as part of the wall.

  • All good ideas and will incorporate them, except don't think I can put in the endless pool on the second floor. Thanks for all the input. And add my name to the minicamp.
  • i just want to know when we have a mini camp @Trent Prough's house??!!!
Honestly, I could live in @Trent Prough pain cave!
