  • ...finally found this!  Ha!  I spoke with Derek during our Sunday swim who broke down and clarified some of the EN protocol.  He is actually the reason I chose EN.  During my IMChoo 70.3 prep I'd keep up with people who I thought were 'making it happen'.  Derek does a LOT!  I saw he was with EN, would soon be needing coaching up to IM Lake Placid, and asked him about it.

A friend got me through to Chattanooga and I think I did very well.  Due to her time constraints, new job, etc. I needed a new coach.  I didn't come this far to ONLY come this far!

My MAIN goal right now is to be one of those who finishes and Ironman and can still walk (versus passing out after crossing the finish line).  The 70.3 was actually easier than I had expected, but I know it was the training that got me through.  AND, I know IRONMAN 140.6 is a totally different BEAST!  So, I'm trying to make time to read through these forums, learn more about the workout (the logic), and train hard without getting injured.  I know I can easily over-train and I don't want that.  So far this is a learning experience with a learning curve, but I'm willing to learn.
  • So...... I FINALLY realized (after looking at the upcoming workouts trying to find some down-time) I uploaded the wrong plan.  I was working from the INTERMEDIATE plan when I was wisely advised to upload the BEGINNER plan.  I happily switched plans.  However, although the INTERMEDIATE seems like a bit much for my body from what I was used to; the BEGINNER seems like not enough.  What I'll do is look forward through the weekly plan (and even to the next week) to see where I can add here & there without over training. :)
  • @Edrika Gutierrez -  so you are right in the middle there somewhere, huh?  The biggest difference between a beginner in the interview plan falls into categories: the animals are slightly longer on the bike, can you have an additional run.

I think the easiest solution, although maybe not easy to remember, is to do the BEG plan during the week, but do the intermediate style rides on the weekends.

After our phone call last week, I was reminded that you'll need a little bit of downtime during the week to recover and I think the beginner plan might be right for you in that respect.
  • That sounds like a good plan (follow Intermediate on the weekends).  I'll do that as there's more time to allow for longer training!

    Question @Coach Patrick,

This week of training is Race Rehearsal.  There are 2 scheduled bike rides of 6 hours.  One on Friday and one on Saturday.  Am I to do BOTH?  I'm unsure if one is only for those at Camp (the Saturday ride).

If so, it's going to be a stretch for me to do both so I'll do one as a 3-hour ride on the trainer to get the miles.  But I'd like clarification please & thank you.  And of course, I'm moving the training days around as 1) I have to work and 2) Sundays are for Open Water (which I'm shooting for the 2.4 distance this weekend), but I do understand there's a method to the madness and am trying to arrange to get the best benefits!

    Edrika
  • @Edrika Gutierrez -  thanks for the question. I am pretty sure I answer to you already on the chat line, so good luck this weekend with the modification. Hope you have some good weather.
