@Paul Hough I think what it means is that they're a loose affiliation of triathlons that are banding together to make a "world tour" of extreme triathlons. The race director of the Alaskaman said that we had to do them all now that Alaskaman was part of it.
So... I'm not "really" an ultrarunner. I did run the Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim which is ~47 miles and kind of counts but isn't really a race. But the guy I work with (who's idea it was to do R2R2R), truly is an ltra runner. He did IMLou with me in 2011 in 11:10:xx with just a handful of bike rides in his life. He hated the bike and swore he'd never get on one again. I paced him for ~40 miles of the Mogollon Monster 100 and he placed 2nd overall... After doing a handful of 100 milers he decided to raise the bar this yr. (There's ALWAYS a higher bar).
I don't know where on the "Epic" scale this race falls, but the Uwharrie 100 in Troy NC is a 102.5 mile trail run in the Uwharrie National Forest that is pretty high up on the difficulty scale. 17,420 feet of elevation gain.
But what makes it special is currently there is a $1,000 cash prize for the first female to break 24 hours. Current record is 28:42. 6 hours faster than the 2nd fastest female time.
You have no idea how much I want to do this one. This may be my 50th birthday present to myself. Honestly, I will do this within the next 5-10years.
It resonates with me as well. Our daughter Marissa went to university at St. Andrews and l went with over to get her settled in her freshman year. I then walked across Scotland from Inverness to Fort William in 5 days. This looks much more challenging though.

That does look fantastic, but I'm getting a little too old to think about running that much. While driving around Northern England this summer, we did cross the border to renew our wedding vows. We plan to go back on a Scotland-only vacation, probably for our 30th, but I plan on doing a big loop by train rather than on foot (apart from running a few miles every morning). Your plan would make a great birthday present and I hope you get to do it.
If it's not Scottish, it's crrrraaap. haha Edinburgh is my favorite city in the world! Just spent New Years there last year, for Hogmanay. One of the 10 best New Years parties in the world, if you ask me!
And thanks to my dad's recent genealogical research, I found out we're descendants of the 1st Earl of Stirling! YAY!!!

@Scott Alexander you may be my new favorite person in EN! I am completely obsessed with all things Scottish right now. Even more than triathlon, if that's possible, haha!!

Great Wall Marathon!! Did it in 2005. If you like stairs, this is on an extremely hilly portion of the Wall! Doing 2 continents in January; Antarctica and Chile, with Kathy Loper Tours!
@Paul Hough, you should go! Barb - my open marathon days are long, long behind me. And I have already have more bucket list events on my schedule than I will ever have time to complete. You will have to do this for the team and write a RR so we can live vicariously through you!!

Anyways, here's the race he's doing this yr:

It's ~204 miles (at altitude) with ~80,000' of gain in the Italian Alps.
Just saying... Pretty epic!
6 Gap in North Georgia
