New wahoo kickr questions

So I finally got my kickr2 after using a computrainer for 12 years.  I was excited to hear the kickr2 was supposedly quieter than the original.  I used it for the first time last weekend and noticed it makes a fairly loud high pitched whine, increasing in volume the faster it spins. Is this the normal sound of the kickr? It's definitely louder than my computrainer was as noted by my wife through closed doors on the other side of the house.

Second question.  Is there any way for the Kickr to broadcast distance to my wahoo bolt head unit? I have p1 pedals and have been using the power from them with a speed and distance sensor for my computrainer which is all recorded by my wahoo bolt which then gets sent to strava and training peaks. Right now it looks like I may only get distance  info via zwift and the power data from the kickr which zwift then uploads to strava/training peaks.  I don't have trainer road because I have the perfpro software that lets me create my workouts.

Thanks

    @TomBox

    Hey Tom, Have been using the kirkr2 now for about 2-3 months and it does have a higher pitch, but it tends to quiet down (very little) after use for a while.  Not a major difference but you may notice it.  I just turn the fan on higher..ha

    As for the distance, if you download the app it will link and does the distance, power, etc., and links to TP and Strava, as well as others.  I have opted to use the app indoors for that reason.  If you have other questions I found the the chat function and customer service is great with wahoo online.  They even asked if they could call me to help in the set up, as i was having issues...You may want to pose both topics with them as well, or in the mean time use the app.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Cheers,
    Brian
  • @Tom Box I am in the same boat you were in prior to purchasing the kickr2.  I have a Computrainer, but unfortunately technology has surpassed and I want (but don't need) Bluetooth and a direct drive trainer similar to your brand new Kickr2.  Because of the noise issue you mentioned, I am leaning towards a TACX Neo.  I also saw this WhisperDrive Smart yesterday, but it is sold out.

    I don't mind the noise, but the only reason I can't do me bike workouts in the morning is it wakes up my wife.  I have heard from many users that the Neo is very quiet.  The only downside is they are from the Netherlands where Wahoo is an American company.

    I believe @Brian Smith sent you in the right direction with the Wahoo App.

    BTW: Go to the DC Rainmaker review of the trainers and you will be able to get the in-depth sound test he did so you can really hear the decible levels via youtube between the leading units, plus it is a good read and review, was one of my decision making factors.

    The only other objective I have for the kickr2 is that it does not have the ability to coast or freewheel so to say, once you stop pedaling, the flywheel slowly winds down, but that is me just being picky, otherwise I have been VERY happy with the Kickr2.  (and I should not be coasting anyway right...ha)
  • Thanks guys.  I used it again this morning and it did seem to be a little bit better as far as the high pitched noise.  So @Brian Smith I think you are correct, with time it will get a little better. It's not terribly loud, just a little louder than what I was used to with the computrainer.
