What's the current best thinking on removable - lnk chains?

I like the idea of having a dedicated race-day chain that stays lubed with the good wax stuff and only goes on when it's Hammer Time.    Do I want a Wipperman?  KMC?  SRAM?  Other?    My drivetrain is shimano.

I have a 'race-day' chain that is a KMC — but only because it has blue side plates, the same colour as my Shiv.
I think a Shimano chain shifts more smoothly though.
  • I love the Wipperman Dave. Really lasts and comes with the easy to remove/install master link!
  • I use a Wipperman 11 speed connect master link.  It was expensive, but it's easy and can be reused over and over.  Plus you only need one regardless of how many chains you use.  My drivetrain is also shimano.

I also recommend wax for your everyday chain.  Buy a small crockpot and you can wax a chain in under 30 minutes.  I have two chains for each of my bikes and I rotate through them.  Super easy.
  • I've really got to learn how to repair chains on the road with an extra link to carry.
