Ankle flexibility/health
My wife is constantly changing gyms and recently took up with an outfit that is a quasi-crossfit type deal, but the gym owner is a long time kinesiologist/PT to boot. I got roped into a "general assessment" of my fitness, strength, balance, etc. Fitness was great, strength less so. What was most notable was my general lack of ankle flexibility. This apparently prevented me from doing a 'proper squat' and greatly impacted my ability to balance with simple tasks like standing on one foot (apparently, I cannot do that). He did not give me a diagnosis per se, but it was clear that the ligaments in the ankles were tightening up all over the place with these movements.
I recall Coach R and many others commenting about this issue without really understanding why this is important. I have also heard that this issue impacts hip mobility, or vice versa.
Is there anything to do about this?
