Week June 26th

Hi Coach P,

This week my season has me switching to the Full Beginner IM plan.  I would be starting at Week 8.  Last week I was on HIM Beginner Plan, Week 18.   I have IM Muncie 70.3 on the July 8th (B race).  I would like to make sure I'm on the right track.

Question 1:  Full IM Beginner, Week 8 - Saturday's schedule has a big volume day. The header says 1hr swim, 4 hr bike, 1 hr run. The smaller details say a 3 hr bike.  Is it 4hr or 3hr?  I plan to do this knowing Muncie 70.3 will be 1 week away.

Question 2:  Next week....should I approach Week 9 of Full IM plan with the mindset that it is a full training week....aka follow the plan.... including Muncie 70.3 on Saturday, correct?

  • @Katie Tarvin -  interesting. I am not sure why Coach Rich did that on your schedule.

    We could eat is a great time to start because of that big volume day, but generally speaking your 70.3 will also serve that purpose.

     I personally suggest that you stick with your 70.3 plan for race day and that we transition you immediately thereafter to the Iron Man plan. The only edit I would make is that you do that big day this Saturday, but Sunday off.

    In your case because of the impending race it should look like this:

    *Swim 30 minutes at Iron Man race pace.

    *Bike three hours, ideally I want to fly in from the terrain with great nutrition execution.

    *Run sixty minutes using heart rate as your guide, again staying very steady at TRP (not too hard).  

     Sunday is off, and then you can follow the final week of the taper into your race. Let's connect after your race!
