IMMT run course change - 2017

Hi all. I just got back from IMMT 70.3 this weekend and wanted to share a cool change to the run course. Forgive me if this has already been posted. This was true for 70.3 so this should also be true for the full. In previous years, there was a 1/3 of a mile (maybe more) dirt section added onto the end of the rail trail out and back. Thanks to new construction at the end of the rail trail, they have created a new under the road tunnel allowing the race route to continue beyond the road for the same distance that would have been covered on the dreaded dirt path.

This is a substantial improvement over the previous year's course. Now if it rains you can just get wet and not wet and muddy.

And for all of you who attended the 2017 Blue Ridge camp, I'll also throw in there that Francee Watson officially and successfully finished her first half ironman on Sunday and is talking about... doing more..  Thanks for all the support!

All the best,

Chris Watson

  • They finished the small additions to the road 2 weeks prior the 70.3 so thats maybe why you dont see it corrected on the image you posted.

But I agree, its a nice improvment and its a donation from the IM Foundation to finish that road
  • @Francis Picardthanks for the info...certainly a good change!! Congrats again on your performance!

How was the bike? I heard they were putting more no passing zones in place...is that the case?
  • @Dawn Cass there is still the passing zone on the bridge like last year and they added a new one in the duplessis downhill at the end which is about 100-150M, I dont know if you remind last year major crash ? its in the last downhill section before where spectators are (usually when not raining)
