Footstock Duathlon Race Report
Yes there is actually a race called Footstock in one of the communities outside Calgary. This race had some oddball distances with a 5.8k run/37.7k bike/9.7k run. Overall i'm pretty pleased with the performance but there is much to improve on with respect to evening out my wattage on the bike. End result 2:15:43, 8th overall and 2nd in my age group.
Run #1 - 24:38(6:49/mile)
Pretty brutal start to a race with probably 1km of 6% grade and up around 410 feet to 4100 feet altitude (give or take). Of course alot of people bolted out of the gate but I knew that i'd see them either later in the run or most definitly on the bike. Was sitting in 14th place over all after the first leg.
Bike - 1:08:56
My plan for the bike was to ride between .90-.95 IF for this distance. Since I’ve never raced with a power meter and have had very few outdoor rides due to the weather around here I was unsure what the end result would be. I ended up coming in at .94 IF with a VI of 1.05. I thought the ride was just ok because my watts were all over the place and I spiked many, many times due to the hills around here; I definitely need to flatten out my power curve because although I reached my goal for the bike the way I got there left something to be desired. This particular course topped out at around 4400 feet and between the hills and wind I spun out alot on the downhills with the compact crank. Came in with the 11th fastest bike and sitting in 9th overall.
Entire workout (215 watts):

Run #2 – 42:10(6:42/mile)
Coming off the bike I had a little cement in the legs from fighting the hills and wind coming into T2. I got the feeling back around a kilometer into the run and the course started to head downhill. I mentioned that Leg 1 went all uphill, well Leg 2 went all down!!! Me and 3 others came into transition around the same time and they all beat me out but I thought that I would probably see them soon because my running has been pretty solid lately. I just kept a steady pace until my legs came back and then I ramped it up and picked them off one by one and didn’t really see anybody until the finish line. Came in with the 9th fastest run, 8th overall in the race and 2nd in my age group.
Thanks for reading.

Made the front page of a newspaper for the duathlon I did last weekend. I'm the second person from the left. I figure the picture was published because of the view and the stagger of the athletes (I caught all those guys). Nice photo though.
Very Nice, and way cool Pic. Awesome for you to be a part of.
