Boulder Bound - Team Cornick
So...a little story to pass your time instead of working like you should be.
My father, Pops, is a life long athlete and battles MS (multiple sclerosis). Over the last year the progression of MS has caught up to him and is taking the away the ability for him to do EPIC $#!T. That's where I come into play, I get to be his legs.
With 1.5 months notice (and training) we completed the Marine Corps Marathon. Through the help of Ainsley's Angels (http://www.ainsleysangels.org) I pushed him in a specially designed chair made by Team Hoyt...who most if not all of you are familiar with.
Fast forward to June of this past year and we just completed our first triathlon together. The Tupper Lake Olympic.
Why are you doing this?! Well, as an able bodied person I've been given the gift of athleticism and some really good genetics from Pops. I don't want to see his athletic career come to a close because his body isn't as strong as his mind. Selfishly, I want to keep doing more 'stuff' with him.
We are currently signed up as the Physically Challenged team for Ironman Boulder in 2018. Where I will face the adversity of completing an Ironman pulling/pushing 500lbs of total weight (diet to start soon, ha!). While the challenge is great the reward of spending time with Pops on this adventure is worth every ounce of sweat.
Don't worry, the shameless plug is coming next.
We've been fundraising for the chariot via cans/bottles (NY) at $.05 at a time. And while we are collecting a lot the it is quite expensive at $5,500. Thankfully Ainsley's Angels (AA) has granted us the ability to take ownership of our new ride before we've even paid for it. An organization that believes in it's people and making sure all are included in endurance events.
Recently, I've decided to up the amount we are fundraising by an extra $1,500. Not only do we want to keep mobility an option for Pops but we want to give mobility away to two families that could use it but not afford it. I've struck a deal with AA and they are going to sell me two of the smaller (Freedom) chairs at a discount to give away. You can easily locate our fundraising page through Crowdrise here: https://www.crowdrise.com/cornick/fundraiser/jeffcornick
If you're wanting to follow outside of the forum for more updates, pictures, stories, cool stuff then you be totally creepy and be a facebook stalker! https://www.facebook.com/boulderCObound/
While we were in Lake Placid for Ironman last week we had the privilege of doing a live podcast with @Mariah Bridges and I think it went wonderfully! If you'd love to hear a little bit more about the journey and who we are then please listen to this. You might chuckle, shed a tear, and be motivated all at the same time.... http://buff.ly/2wcDTe6
I'll be posting updates on this thread as time goes on. Training, nutrition, challenges, course information, WTC regulations, etc. @Mariah Bridges encouraged me to be more open about my journey...so here I am!
So a quick recap!

Little bit of down time before IMCO training officially kicks off...R&R sure is nice...just hope I don't get too used to it.
Since I've started my consistent training and better eating I've dropped 17.2lbs in 5 weeks and I feel so much better. I am seriously craving a piece of pizza though...not gonna lie.
This is more consistency than I had this year for IMLP. I'm very excited to see where my fitness level ends up 6 months from now and still healthy because it's being done right.
