edited September 11, 2017 3:16PM in Coaching Forum 🧢

Here's your personal Coach Thread, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is here to guide you through your first year on EN, so you can always come back here.

As you'll see in this forum, I handle all manner of edits and changes.  So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

Coach Notes

I see your notes about not getting faster, and being frustrated as well. Good news is that there are plenty of ways to get fast in an IM....better nutrition, better execution, better fitness, better taper, etc. But it does take some time to get things lined up.

I have added training plans above (you move and change them yourself). Even with Augusta coming up, we have to load IMFL to get you on point...your long rides and runs are a priority, and we can "insert Augusta" into your training week (guidance here) and we can talk in this forum thread.

Augusta is a great place to practice some nutrition and to ascertain your current fitness levels:

Your First Month on the Team

You have quite a few things to do when you start up. There are instructions on the top of the website, but you can review them under Resources / 0-- First 30 Days on EN.  If you have any trouble, don’t hesitate to reach out via the chat icon on the main Members website here.

Your First Year Inside Endurance Nation

The focus of this week is RACE EXECUTION and how we can help you get faster by being smarter on race day. There are no medals for great swims or getting to the top of a hill first — on race day only your finish time counts. There are many ways of being faster, and here are some of the resources we have to help you out.

- The Four Keys of Race Execution Video: The Coaches walk you through the macro level elements of a successful race.

- Distance Specific Guidance: Learn the fundamentals of racing Short Course and Long Course events, from each discipline to pacing zones, etc.

- Race Specific Pages: We have aggregated information on specific races from the internet, race reports and even our own coaching resources. You can find your race Master Racing Page section.

- The Race Forums:  You can search for race reports or connect with your teammates. There are sections for 70.3, 140.6, and Marathons.

If you have further questions or need more support, please reach out via your Coach Thread or to me using the Red Chat Icon at the bottom of the site.

  • Please reply below with WHY you chose Endurance Nation and WHY you train/compete.

Comments

  • Thank you Coach P.
I train and compete because I enjoy the struggle of trying to make myself better physically and mentally.
I enjoy the competition with others to a point, but it is more about improving personal benchmarks.
I chose Endurance Nation because I no longer want to be self coached. I am not making progress and need professional guidance. I have listened to the EN podcasts and watched the videos. I have also looked at race results.
Endurance Nation offers collective knowledge and experience that is unmatched. Add the support of hundreds of athletes sharing similar goals and you have the perfect environment for success.

  • @rob poma -  thanks man, I appreciate the background. When you when I talk on the phone we can go over more of the details about your history and what you're looking to do next. Here is the link to set up a call: https://calendly.com/pmccrann/15min

heads up that I am on the road to race Mont Tremblant this weekend, but will be back and available as of Wednesday next week. If you'd like to talk before then I can make it happen just let me know here.
  • @rob poma - Great to talk last week; thanks for your patience on my notes!

Our goal is to get your race ready for Augusta such that you can test your nutrition and pacing ahead of IMFL. Sometimes AUG can be super hot, so you should have your "A" game regardless.

Some of the aero equipment we discussed:

I know you don't test your FTP very much but you don't HAVE to in order to be successful. You can use your 4 to 5 hour power, or your long ride power info, as a guide as well. The FTP stuff is more important in the winter anyway.  I think I found you on Strava, so when you can, please set it up so I can see your training log, etc...info is here.

And finally, we need to dial in your nutrition using our sweat test guidance....fluids are critical, and we want to make sure you are taking in the right balance of Ounces and Calories; it just takes a few minutes over your next weekend long ride, not too hard!

    Let's keep it rolling!
