Are you Kidn-ey-ing me?

Anyone ever have Kidney stone(s)? How did know? How did/do you handle them?

  • I blast em for a living, never had one though. @Gary Lewis has some experience too

usually need a CT to make the diagnosis and decide best treatment route

are you training for an IM?
  • just completed IMLP; not sure if what I experienced was a kidney stone and just curious....

I read the kidney stone CT scans.  Most of the time people who have them lodged in a ureter are writhing in pain and need narcotics for comfort.
  • Writhing in pain is an understatement. I have had two.  One I passed in 2013 and one that was surgically removed 5 weeks before I raced IMAZ last year.  Both of them were triggered by getting a little dehydrated the week prior.

The second one I thought I passed in August, but that was just the first sign of it.  When it really decided to move along is when I had big problems.  You may want to get a CT scan like Doug suggested.  At least then you can have a choice.

I have been told by other people that had them, to drink lemon juice daily and it will dissolve them naturally.  I have read that you should not drink grapefruit or cranberry juice as that will aggravate them.  Not sure why one acidic citrus juice is better than another.
  • I'm going to my doc on Monday; my sister and nephew get them often...it can range in degree of pain. Thanks for the comments!

  • Good job! Don't home remedy.
