Sid Wavrin's IMCDA Race report

Arrived on Friday. I had a tight schedule and CDA is a relatively short drive from home. Did athlete check in with no lines at all. Went for a short swim at the venue and then checked into the hotel, early dinner and legs up.
Saturday : Did a short, easy ride, very short swim to test out and decide on sleeveless wet suit based on Friday's rather warm swim. Got the bike checked in and headed back for food, legs up and early to bed.
Race day: Awoke at 3:00 ate what seemed like too much. Oatmeal , Banana, Liquid yogurt and 1/2 bagel. Shooting for the 600 or so calories. Seemed like a lot. Headed to race start, checked the bike, bathroom etc. and headed to the beach. Placed myself in the 1:10ish and of f I went. Swim was uneventful. Not crowded at all. 1:12:58.
T1: uneventful. 5:01
Bike: Heat was building, but still felt really good. CDA has a lot of hills, so my goal was to not over climb. I want so bad to be a good cyclist that it's hard to admit to myself the numbers I need to ride. So...I made the obvious mistake on the bike. My TSS was 358 on the bike leg. VI was 1.05. Just rode a little too hard. Still felt pretty good Starting the run.
Run: The day got pretty warm here. That coupled with the bike leg and the marathon was not so great. 4:40. Nothing really to report here other than the obvious. My goal was to be close to 4:00. I am pretty sure that giving up 15 minutes on the bike leg could have gained me 30 on the run. Where have I heard that before? I will go to work building my bike FTP and then pay attention to them next time.

Interesting that even with this run I moved up all day. All said and done the day was a victory. I had a great time training and racing and learned a bunch throughout. The EN team with race reports and information of all kinds have been and continue to be inspirational.
