Stan Johnson Official Coach Thread

Here's your personal Coach Thread, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is here to guide you through your first year on EN, so you can always come back here.

As you'll see in this forum, I handle all manner of edits and changes.  So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

Coach Notes

Congratulations on signing up for that first race!! So...now we have to start you training!!! :D

We'll start off easy with the Run Durability Plan which is just about frequent runs -- don't worry about the interval run, just do a steady run for that time...even if it's run walk. The goal here is to have four weeks to build some kind of baseline and momentum that will serve you both for the 5k and beyond.

After those first four week, you need to log in and load up the next plan on the My Plan page. This will be the Get Fast plan, which is 10 weeks long but you are only going to do the first 8 weeks into your Turkey Trot.

Then we are back to Run Durability 2, a brief holiday break (we do a running challenge here inside the Team that's fun) and on to the OutSeason® Plan. This is where we build most of your speed and strength for the upcoming year, bonus that it's really a fun and social plan as you will be a part of the January OutSeason® Crew!

  • @stan johnson - Ok I updated your 2017 season above with some training plan guidance...please check it out when you can!
  • @Stan Great to talk with you last week! Here are my notes so you can get to work....

The Shoes...the brand is Hoka One One. I sent you a message on these already but they are really good for us bigger folks. Once you find a pair you like I recommend you buy two of them so that you can alternate for running. You might even like kicking around in them when you aren't working!

Strava Set Up - Strava is online here: www.strava.com  The basic account is free...once you are in there, you can:
    • (1) connect your Garmin Connect to strava so that all workouts will post automatically. Instructions are here, I am pretty sure you have already done steps 1 thru 3, so once you have a strava account you are all good.
    • (2) join Team Endurance Nation on Strava and open access to me as your coach: Info here.

The Run Durability Program (RDP) is the way for you to right now. The full information on the program is in the forums here: http://bit.ly/2wyby6E, including instructions for joining our Chat Group so that you can stay connected and motivated even when you aren't on the website!

Your Training Focus for the Next Quarter
