Stephanie Hartmann Official Coach Thread

Here's your updated Season Plan, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is my best outline of how to proceed with your races, but you can ask any / all questions you want. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

Coach Notes

Stephanie, great to have you back and getting to work! I have outlined your year above....here's what I am thinking:

  • We start with the Run Durability Program (RDP)  that gets you building good strength on a very manageable schedule.
  • We drop you (a little early) form RDP 2 into the OutSeason® and make the most of your winter.
  • We exit via Swim Camp Plan (more here) into the GetFast Plan (learn more) which is a great mid year build. If this proves to be too much, we can back off.
  • Then it's into the proper Full plan. Since you are LEFT COAST you should check out our Member Led Camps  for what's happening out there in terms of early season volume.

Let's get to work!

  • Thanks! this looks good, I'll keep you posted. :)
  • Smoke has cleared in Seattle but I spent a couple of days in Yakima and Kennewick on business. WOW those people have had this smoke far worse than us for a lot longer. I'm hacking still!!

Anyway, do you think I can recover from CDL 70.3 in time to do IM CA Whistler? Can I recover from the Ironman quick enough to do Steelhead?
  • 70.3 in Hawaii in March seems more reasonable. Now that I'm on the left coast, these races are more doable. Still like to sneak in Steelhead as my best friend is the best supporter ever and she lives close by.
  • @Stephanie Hartmann -  we can make almost any other race work for you. The Hawaii 70.3 is very popular for the West Coast folks and has a nice break to end the winter start the spring. It does mean a good amount of indoor training, but it's a great boost to kick off the year before IMC.

The transition to steelhead would be tougher, but if you're going to do it just to be with a friend (vs performance) that's a no-brainer.

     Let me know!
  • Don't know why i thought Hawaii was in March...it's June 2nd. That's 59 days to recover before the IM :Whistler. seems doable if I treat Hawaii as a long training day. Indoor training is OK with me. It's already raining here so I'll be on the trainer!! and I like to run in the rain. I have the half marathon in January so I'll run.
  • @Stephanie Hartmann -  you totally tricked me too! I have always felt like it’s earlier too, but, yes, it is in June. ;)

Eight weeks away from Whistler is more than enough time to recover, so you are 100% OK to actually go out and race it.
  • Great, because one of the HUGE benefits of living out here is..... HAWAII!!
  • signed up for steelhead, it's just too easy for me to travel and do that one. and it's a fun race. Studying for an industry exam that I take Monday. Getting on the trainer for the fist time in months today, probably brick it. Tomorrow just run.

70.3 Victoria is June 3rd. Kind of evil they put that on the day after Hawaii...because I can drive up there in about 90 minutes. Hmmm. Would make a lot of sense right before Whistler. Anyway, have a great weekend!
  • @Stephanie Hartmann -  I hope the return to the trainer was all that you dreamed it would be.

Nothing like a brick work out to get back into the swing of things. Afternoons all the problems of having too many races to choose from!

I suggest you reach out to the team and see who else is doing well but as a means of determining which will be more fun!
  • Yep the brick was good. Helps me warm up for the run! I always run a little off the bike, can't hurt. :)

Management meetings and dinners and lunches every day this week! I'm exhausted. Must get into the morning gym routine for some energy and much needed weight loss. i passed my Series 66 Monday morning so that's a relief. Would like to start seeing myself back up on the front page of the strava board again!!
  • Congrats on passing and don’t worry about the leaderboard just yet ... give it a few
more weeks of steady to get things primed!!
  • Thinking of you and Mariah on the Big Island and hoping you are having the BEST TIME!! The energy must be unreal... #bucketlist... not sure I'd ever be fit enough to race there, but I'd sure love to soak it in some day!!
  • @Stephanie Hartmann Thanks so much...we had a blast and it's a great race to just come and experience. Besides if you aren't racing you can do all the cool training!
  • Switched the plan to Half Marathon for my Jan 20th race. Got my boot back out and am trying to get ahead of foot issues this time. Hope all is well with you!
  • I got into the Berlin Marathon so I've deferred my IM Canada to 2019. I am still in for Steelhead and may do Victoria or Hawaii in June. Pretty sore from starting over again, but it's a good kind of sore.
  • That is fantastic news! When you finalize those are the races, please update your roadmap and I’ll get to it! Very jealous of Berlin. ;)
