Your First Year Inside Endurance Nation

RACE EXECUTION and how we can help you get faster by being smarter on race day. There are no medals for great swims or getting to the top of a hill first — on race day only your finish time counts. There are many ways of being faster, and here are some of the resources we have to help you out.

- The Four Keys of Race Execution Video: The Coaches walk you through the macro level elements of a successful race.

  • Hi Patrick, I have signed up for a half marathon on November 25th. Would it be a good idea to do the last 5 weeks of the half marathon plan, instead of the run durability 2 which you have lined up for me ? Thanks Kenny
  • @Kenny Murtagh -  please check the schedule above. I only have you doing one week of that run durability plan number two. You are starting the outs season on October 30, which is next Monday. So we will modify that we could be out season to accommodate your half. The training will be pretty close to specific… I suggest you go with the “run focused“ out season plan.

Please confirm, and let’s plan on connecting mid-November to adjust as needed.
  • Thanks Patrick that's great will do
  • Sorry Patrick, I didn't mean to post the above. If I change my plan to out season and start from Monday that will work for me ? I would like to keep up some biking too if possible
  • Yes, that’s 100% fine! Onward!
  • Hi Patrick,

I'm doing the half marathon on Saturday and am just wondering will I follow my plan until Wednesday and taper or would you suggest something else ?
  • Hi Patrick,

I did the half marathon on Saturday and legs are still a little stiff today, should I do the bike test tomorrow as per plan or leave it for a couple of days ? Also I noticed that my account has been debited for 6 months worth of membership instead of 2, I'm sure it's probably something I did when joining so if you could please advise on what to do thanks

    Kenny
  • @kenny murtagh - You should wait to test...those half marathons can take a while to get out of your system for sure!! You can work in a test next week just by taking Monday off & testing on Tuesday AM.

    ~ Coach P

  • Hi Patrick, I did a lactate test on a running track last week and my current LT heart rate is 167 bpm and my aerobic treshold is 152 bpm, can these results be used to determine my new run zones ?
    Many thanks, Kenny
  • Kenny, sure. You can put the 167 heart rate into the calculator and then save those heart rate zones to your profile!
  • @Kenny Murtagh

Let's update your profile picture when you get the chance…it really helps the Team to "get to know you" a lot better.

You can do that by following this animated GIF (below)…good luck!

  • Hi Patrick I have a trip coming up on March 24th until 31st where I will have no access to a pool or a bike, can you adjust my plan to suit this please. Many thanks Kenny
  • @Kenny Murtagh - Thanks for reaching out. I think the best course of action is for you to continue the Get Fast plan right into (and after!) your trip. When you get back, that first week will have to be cautious on the bike as you'll need some time to get back into it.

While you are on the road, please continue with the run portions of the Get Fast Training Plan. This is six total runs (some intervals, some strides) and should be more than enough to keep you active daily.

Our goal here on the trip isn't to make you fitter, but to have you maintain your fitness across the week such that your re-entry is solid and you get back on track sooner!

Let me know what you think!

    ~ Patrick
  • Thanks Patrick for the above, all going well on my side. I just wanted to confirm that I am changing to the full 12 week advanced plan on Monday April 9 ? I must organise a call at some stage if it suits you ?

    Many thanks

    Kenny
  • Hi Coach Patrick I just did my run test and it went ok but my average heart rate was less than before and when I put in into the calculator, of course it brings my zones down meaning that my efforts will be easier than before. Should I stay with my old zones in order to keep efforts high ?
  • @Kenny Murtagh - yes to 12 weeks changeover and you can set up a call here: https://calendly.com/pmccrann/15min

yes, let’s use the same old zones please. You are just getting a bit fitter right now, so the numbers drop a bit. They’ll come back up when it warms up I promise.

What was the time difference from test 1 to test 2?
